FPS on i3 in zerg fights?
Same for me but i have a core 2 duo OC to 3ghz, Nvidia 560Ti, 4g of ram. I have the same fps when normal questing mostly but some areas like the Black Citadle (charr city) seem to dip in fps and get choppy on some areas. WvW for me is not enjoyable on this CPU i don’t even know why it’s even on minimum because its hardly even playable it’s just frustrating on big fights and i just look and laugh at how stupid the FPS is.
Yes there needs to be better graphics options that actually CHANGE the fps like the spell effects and such because i can run the game on mostly high and see no change if i put it to all low (although turning down shadows and reflections only seem to help minor compared to the rest).
But we all know even the i5 and i7 rigs are having trouble in zergs, mainly not though. CPU bound game is CPU bound, spend moar moneyz upgrade or suffer because i hardly think this game is going to be more optimized towards the GPU due to core game design choices.
Aye GW2 game engine is a heavy modified version of GW1 ..but .its stil lan old GW1 engine.
That said it struggles to be efficent under ehavy loads like WvWvW and other big events..this is why CPu power effects the games performacne in these casses.
‘Should’ GW2 perform like this ..no
‘Does’ it performa liek this ..yes
‘Will’ it change ? ..well if it does its gunan take a while as that would requir a major patch or complete change of game engine.
For now the only option players have is to beaf up their CPU. In your case a i3 is beaten by a i5 easily ..hence your firends better perfomance.
i personaly reccomend getting a i5 K version and OC’ing it to atleast 4ghz (which should be easy) then you should have ‘acceptable’ FPS for GW2 assuming your GPU keeps up.
I personaly cant test how well my CPU will manage in WvWvW becouse my GPU is the major bottleneck ..and i wont upgrade to 600 series GPU now becouse they are ..well Nvidia held back…im waiting on the ‘real’ 600 series to come out in march as the 700 series. Probably a 780.

I agree with Nova, upgrade to the i5 k and your notice a good increase in performance, and the HD5770 shouldn’t have any issues keeping up so long as your res doesn’t exceed 1680×1050 just don’t expect to amp all the settings to max, esp shadows
.
An to SolarNova, what do you mean by Nvidia held back… ?
A quad core cpu is a must for mass player rendering. i5 is a quad core, BIG difference from any dual core (ignore hyper-threading) such as the i3.
The HD5770 i briefly used on the release weekend in wvw, and it was playable with my i5 760 stock. But i upgraded to an HD5870 from a friend and enjoyed much more flexibility.
You’ll want to play around with your graphics settings, shadows=none, shaders=low, generally low to medium settings. Oh, and side tip is to regularly defrag your drive if you are using a standard hard drive. That helps with rendering mass players noticeably vs. ghosting.

@Alteris:
Long story short, Nvidia renamed their original 660ti to the 680. The actual original 680 hasnt been released and many beleve they will release it ..or modified verison of it . as a 780.
Now Nvidia obviosly wont come out and admit this, but their is evidance that Nvidia had/have the capability to have released much better GPU’s than the 600 series we see atm. Some of this evidance is the release date push backs..which was due to AMD not having any GPU that could challenge Nvidia at the time. So they just released a weaker version of what they could have and sold it at the same price, and anounced there other gpu’s (which had been anouced to be released) would be released later.
Why build and release somthing that will cost more to make ..when you can sell somthing cheaper at the same price becouse there is no competition.

@SolarNova
So they did again what they did with the 9ks ? Wow…an ppl wonder why I don’t like them lols. They started out nice, but then greed took over >.> never a good thing.
