Hi, I have no idea what to do, I updated today and when I went to start the log in, this popped up;
Guild wars2 warning
“Last time Guild Wars 2 ran, it detected a problem in its game -data (it then gives a link)
http/support.guildwars2.com/ ( I didn’t put link exact, as I don’t want to break any rules)
We recommend that you let the game verify and repair its data. Would you like to do this? (it then gives two boxes with yes in one and no in the other)”

I didn’t press the link but did go to your support page did not see this warning anywhere.
I played the other day no problems loading or exiting. Have never seen this before so if its ok to press YES and proceed Id like to know. thank you

I got the same message after updating. I let it run the repair. When it was done the game loaded normally and there are no problems, so far.

I asked some friends. They said they have gotten this message type screen before. So it seems its ok to proceed and press YES. Sorry if I took up your time.

It looks to me like either the client or data in the latest patch has a problem.

Following the patch this evening I got a message “GW2 saw a problem with your game-data” that it’s hard to see can have come from any source other than the patch itself.

To explain: I run two copies of GW on my computer. The copies are held in separate file structures on different physical drives; to the best of my ability to do so, the two are fully isolated from one another. (I start the second copy as a a scheduled task under a second user id, using a .bat file to launch it and to delete the “AN-Mutex-Window-Guild Wars 2” handle that normally gets in the way of running multiple copies.)

I was playing via my first, “main” copy when the latest patch struck, so after a few minutes of patch availability I logged out and let the first client patch itself. I then fired up the second copy, and allowed it to patch itself while I continued to play on the first, which it duly did. Both copies appeared to work fine following patching. A short while later I exited both clients under control and closed down the computer for a couple of hours.

On returning to the computer, both copies of the client gave me the “problem with your game-data” message on start-up.

Which seems very suspicious. Whilst I can easily envisage that one copy might have somehow become mildly corrupted, it’s hard to see how or why the problem would be at my end when it shows up, effectively simultaneously, on two separate copies. I would suggest that either the client is giving a false error report, or the patch itself is in some way “broken”.

Edit: Since “repairing”, neither has, to date at least, repeated the “error” message.

You can always click no, and then run the repair option after.

This popped up when i signed in tonight, the game had not fully loaded (it was still in the sign in page)i don’t know if its an actual problem or someone attempting to hack me,i signed in from the same place i always do & didn’t go to another site to sign in. i clicked no, & signed in, then signed out & then back on again, twice, so far it has not popped up again. I’m hoping its not a hack or at least someone can tell me whats going on.

I just had this too, in the end it finished updating and went to login as normal, although it scared me for a moment as the ‘updating data’ bar seemed to be stuck and it said ‘not responding’.

Yep, happened to me on both accounts (one is currently repairing now, the other one yesterday). 64 bit client on one, 32 bit on the other, so it’s not isolated to one of them unless it’s a helluva coincidence.

Today when I launched my client a pop up appeared about “problems with in game data” that I’ve never received before. Is this legit or some sort of hack attempt?

Whatever the cause, it’s something wrong with data in the game files locally (your game installation). No reason to worry about your account security, or anything else related to your game account.

Problems like this usually get fixed when you verify/repair your game files. You can manually force the game to check all of the game data by using the -repair command line argument detailed on the wiki.

Why is Guild Wars Repairing my data archive?

The exe found a something mismatched. Typically, this should only happen if you have a very, very fragmented gw2.DAT file. If it doesn’t happen again soon, don’t worry about it. If it does… if you have enough room on your hard drive, copy your .DAT file (in windows), then delete the old one and rename the copy to gw2.DAT. The copy should end up being less fragmented.

Alternatively, if it happens often, work with support to troubleshoot.

Alright so lately GW2 has been crashing a lot on one of my computers and giving the whole “encountered an error and needs to close” message. "

I tried repairing using -repair at the end of the executable, but it would never fully repair, as the repair bar seemed to just stop part way and never finished.

Next I tried deleting the game folder from my computer entirely in order to reinstall and it wouldn’t delete fully. Even though I went to task manager and ended all gw2 tasks, it still tells me the file is in use when I try to delete the executable. I would love to know how to delete gw2 so I can completely reinstall and hopefully get rid of the bug that’s caused me to crash. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

The last straw for me was DC’ing in the middle of gors during a successful run and not getting my loots. Sad day..

Did you simply try re-booting to see if that freed up the .EXE, it certainly should do.

If a simple reboot doesn’t work you could try booting to Safe Mode to see if that can allow you to delete the .EXE.

You are using the 64-bit client I assume, if not the 32-bit has numerous problems which cause crashes and DCs especially in world event boss fights and quite possibly raid events too.

As for the Repair not completing, how long did you leave it? I had to use it in the last few days when after playing the game with the patch still downloading .. the launcher showed the game was ‘playable’ that session was fine but next time I ran the launcher I got the ‘corrupt’ message .. and the repair took a LONG time and at times the bar didn’t move for minutes at a time.
