Fighting botters with their own weapon
I have played Jade Dynasty and have views for and against this method.
For:
It does give everyone the power to farm multiple mobs while afk therefore revoking a botters privilege to run the server.
They helped the player base to level at a quick pace in a game famous for the amount of levels to max
The amount of Karma needed for high end gear will now be easily attainable for those who may not be able to physically play the game as much as everyone else (karma farming)
Against:
Supporting bad behavior by promoting the bad behavior by way of botting
Discouraging discovery and exploration of zones
Hindering rather then helping in the long run. This means there are two ways to play the game, either bot or do not bot, the no botting individuals will be hurt in the long run as their mobs will be farmed/taken by those choosing to bot, their drops, money and so on will be “stolen”.
Forget economy it will crash and no one will ever use the TP again or even buy anything that you can’t get from karma. All those awesome weapons and gear that come from Karma will be easily attainable since Botting will = Karma farming.
Everything is right what you say, only that there is no loot/mob stealing in GW2 with or without botting. If you participate, you get rewarded.
That’s very true it is more based on the damage you do as well as RNG. However we have to think of this, Espers in Jade Dynasty are quested/farmed or/were found on the marketplace, while it’s great they had ways of collecting Espers of all different types with separate stats, it would then become what is known as a P2W game. Not to mention with the BLM always down or having issues with bought gems never being distributed it ends up creating more problems then solving .
Other downside from adding a system such as this would be the devs having to manage this, they have enough on their plate right now with security issues, BLM coming down, items in game disappearing; this would just be one more thing that would either be broken or would take time away from more important aspects. If they get the time later on down the road ( a year or more) that would be okay and maybe they could pull it off.
So you want the game to play instead of us?
Horrible idea.
Botting IS bannable. Farming while AFK at an event IS bannable. They banned like 4000 bots just recently, so its not like they aren’t trying to resolve the issue.
People just think its “OK” to turn an auto attack weapon on, and farm an event while AFK for hours. But they will get banned eventually for it.

True point tho is it wouldnt give them a worst reputation then the banning for no reason thing
Yeah I am scared to even play while my kids are up (baby never sleeps) for fear of being banned because the baby needed changed while I was in the middle of an event, or because I am trying to use one hand to fight while juggling the baby in the other because of being caught in the middle of an event. I know a lot of people will say “just log out” but some events are based on a time, example the dragons, if I ever hope to participate then I tend to have to do two things at once.
So I try to stay in a town as much as possible when I may be forced to jump afk for more then a second.

You know its funny. Everyone says this.
And yet all I have to do is go look at the Reddit thread that people were complaining about how they had “No ideaz” how they were banned, and a Anet employee totally shamed them by posting their obvious violations.

They aren’t going to ban you for going AFK during an event for 20-30 minutes. That’s an exaggeration.
If their logs are anything like what I have worked with, they are probably logging key presses. I am positive as long as you didn’t stand in one spot for more then a few hours pressing the nothing but the “1” key you’ll be fine.
I’ve stood still in game for several hours with events going on all around me. I forgot I had minimised guild Wars and because it makes no noise didn’t think about it. It was only about 4 hours later I realised when I got a text from a Guild member saying, “are you ignoring me?”
My account is fine and I’ve not been banned.
They are quite good at knowing the difference between a genuine afk and a bot
May as well bring in some NPCs like SW:TOR, that do all of the farming for you, while you’re at it.
All I can see this doing is inflating prices of everything on the TP. Besides, the whole game is about the experience of exploration, discovery, and random events. Going afk and having your character bot to level 80 ruins everything the game stands for.

Yea, sometimes I would like the game play itself and I can just watch it or record it. After a working day in real life, the game should be regarded as a relaxing activity, not just another type of work. The down leveling system, which is great, makes the game to be challenging in every zone at every level and the events are not letting you be, sort to speak, except when you are in a town. So for 30min/day I could just watch my character do the fighting and re;lax in the same time.

So uh, not to be argumentative or judgemental here, especially since I’m never going to be one arguing for making the game superhardomg!, but – why aren’t you watching one of the fine films or television shows available on or offline or reading one of the equally fine books produced on or offline, rather than trying to spend your time watching a game play itself for you? Games are a genre that inherently requires substantial user activity, while the others do not. They are all (usually) relaxing, enjoyable leisure activities, but produced for audiences that wish to do different things with that leisure time. Trying to get one of them made for a different audience seems counterproductive at best.
^ Exactly what i wanted to say.
Go watch a movie or read a book, fi you so don’t want to play the game… It’s not too hard.
Dude no just no… botting kills games let Anet perma ban em all…
Ban the bots! We are anti-bottites here!
While I’m one of the type of players who would benefit from a legal bot (my job has me working long hours), I totally agree that it would destroy the game’s economy and annihilate the random grouping and helping out of each other.. People would only “actually stick together” for guild events and dungeons. I don’t have a guild, and I enjoy roaming around, helping other random groups that are doing events/etc., while exploring the maps. Having a (lets estimate 50%) population of legal bots on at the time would kill the game for me.
And don’t even get me started on random rez’s.. You could program a bot to revive, but you can’t program them to always pick the best time to do it.
