nope, doesn’t seem to work for me… still crashing.
I can only find a Gw2.dat, but no local.dat in that folder
where is the local.dat?
Doesn’ do anything for me, btw – GW2 and my GPU don’t seem to like each other anymore
local.dat can be found in the folder where your Screens etc are. But tried this, no solution, still crashes.
worked for me Thanks very much
local.dat is supposed to be inside my GW2 folder? or i search it on my menu bar local.dat is that the one im going to delete?
Doesn’t work for me, now i can login, but i’ll get a black screen after a bit of time….
I found mine within the ‘my documents > guild wars 2’. It didn’t fix my problem though
I have had 2 folders. One with Gw2.exe and the other with local.dat. I combined those two and after this i renamed local.dat to local.old. Then i reconnect to my router and it works. But after a bit of time i get another BSODs.
A couple of weeks of not being able to log in, and finally can, thank you very much OP. No more black screen on login. Sticky this thread. And Anet should pay the OP for this seriously doing their job.

Developer – Roll back your patches
Developer – Roll back your patches
No. This patch fixed several bugs that were blocking my progess in the event. I also like the new FoV without having to use the commandline argument. I’d rather it not be rolled back.
Removing/renaming local.dat worked for me too.
I had the issue rarely at first, but it seemed to get worse over time.
One thing I did notice when I got the crash/black screen, and sometimes BSOD in nv4_mini.sys. With Task Manager open on a second screen, I noticed that the Paged Kernel Memory value would spike to over 300MB and the game would crash.
After ‘resetting’ local.dat, it still spikes, but only to 200MB or so, but then immediately drops to pre game launch levels.
If you go into your Admin router control panel and disable SPI from your firewall it should stop that odd black screen issue that occurs after being in the game for awhile.

I cant find the Guildwars.exe in my folders, all i have is clearfi
I don’t know If it’s a lucky coincidence or a real deal but after doing just that I could play the game (After having the same problem of trying to start the game and getting either black screen or freeze and reboot).

This quick fix worked for me after two days of sweating, cursing, troubleshooting:
1. Rename local.dat file found in Guild Wars 2 folder (where gw2.exe is). Make sure you can view file extensions. You can probably move or delete this file since it gets recreated whenever you run the game, but I just renamed it to local.old
2. Power off then on my little router, and my internet provider’s modem.Havent seen the black screen problem for a few days. If it happens again, I might try just step 1 (without step 2) and see what happens.
Note in my specific case, the following did NOT fix the problem:
upgrading Nvidia drivers did not fix the problem
restoring Nvidia settings to original specs
running “gw2.exe -repair”
increasing or resetting virtual memory
changing display settings
praying to the six godsHope this helps someone out there!
i did this and it worked thank you so much =)
spent about 12 hours trying to fix this now its working
thanks again

I’ve read to that’s because GW2 has problem with nv4_mini.sys and its blow up the operation system. Thats why the blinking black screen or the blue screen with nv4_mini.sys problem. As an other solution you can uninstall Windows’ Terminal Services function at Control Panel -> Remove/Add Programs -> Windows Components. There you must uncheck the Terminal Services.
i can’t find my local.dat file . here’s what I have in my gw2.
if deleting it will fix it, then i guess its not working for me.
