Seriously. I like you’re adding new content a lot, but for what purpose when I’m having a fight with the launcher within every update?

Last patch update: I was stuck at 25% and had to reinstall the client from scratch.
This update: My client starts up in the process only.

Jesus Christ.
I’m going to contact the support staff which will now take me over 24 hours for a response beside the 2-3 hours I’ve already spent trying to figure out what made my launcher crash.

And no, adding -repair to my GW2’s shortcut’s target didn’t fix anything at all.

Not necessarily a problem with the hard drive, though it can contribute. I’d pay even money that those of you having problems are running win7. I had the same problems, despite my win8 laptop downloading it fine, and currently running it off an emergency backup drive (aka old and tiny laptop drive) that runs winxp. NEITHER of them had significant issues downloading the update. Win7 would stall out at 20mb, 60mb, 100mb, etc etc. I reboot of the smaller drive? 1.6MB/s for the entire 18GB file.

Here’s the big kicker to it being a win7 issue: complete failure to copy the dat file off an external hard drive due to stall within 30 seconds, and failure to copy the dat file from this laptop over the network using homegroup access (before an anet staff comes and says “do blablabla,” this attempted BOTH PUSH AND PULL copies), which failed after 10 hours and only reaching 45% of the file on the best attempt.

I know anet likes using a dat file because it “hides” all the resources used by guild wars, but for christs sake, it’s a bad design because it gets treated as a single file for every system operation windows does. Plus it’s not like it really stops anything if someone seriously wants to mod the game.

I run Win7 64bit and never have an issue with the updater. I run a mix of systems with HDDs and SSDs, and Neither have the ‘stalling’ issue reported here.

I would suggest loading up crystaldisk Info and make sure your SMART data is clear. And that your HDD has less then 20K hours of uptime on it.

Desktop: 4790k@4.6ghz-1.25v, AMD 295×2, 32GB 1866CL10 RAM, 850Evo 500GB SSD

I have no problems copying the ~18 gig GW2 files over my network or to external drives and I’m using Windows 7; but I don’t use the (lame in my opinion) Homegroup feature.

I also have no problems with the launcher, updates or playing the game.

Sometimes these issues are caused by software conflicts or (more likely) overprotective AV and firewall programs. It’s important to realize that merely disabling or turning off these programs doesn’t really stop the majority of them from functioning. The only real way to do that, is to uninstall them and even then they may have changed important network settings without changing them back.

Hopefully this website will help:
