I have been forced to change the name of my main character Cristo Satanico. I do not understand why i have used the name in gw 1 for many years and, have used the name since release of gw 2. Why is it only now that i am being asked to change it, I see how it can be viewed as offensive but if no one has complained for years what is the problem.

Perhaps it’s because you make a reference to two religious figures within the same name.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

I have this problem too. My name is Mike The Pounding, and just a few minutes ago before i posted this I got suspended temporarily. I don’t understand why this name is in violation of naming policy when a lot of my guildies said that this name is okay. Anet keeps me renaming this character for so many times, and the last few times when I named this character I would ask my guildies if the name was okay. I have a character named Dr Pounding, and it has not received any renaming message since i named it. So, Dr Pounding is okay, but Mike The Pounding is not okay. This is REALLY funny.

Names are only ‘okay’ until someone finds them offensive, reports them, ArenaNet investigates, and ultimately agrees. You can dispute the action taken, if you so desire, by contacting Customer Support. Good luck.

Well, I have to say it’s really a long story. Way back then, I got banned for a few minutes because I had a dirty name. I accepted that, so I changed it to Prof Pounding. Like one of the threads said, support members would keep their eyes on me within 24 hours after they banned me. So after I renamed it, they didn’t ban it. But until recently, maybe like u said, someone reported me and they thought that maybe my name wasn’t good. But why would they allow me to travel with that name for a few months? That wouldn’t make any sense if they checked on me for that name. In a way, if they did check on my name and thought that name wasn’t good, why not banned me back then? Why now?

I don’t think they do check the new names. If the name gets past the filter, then it’s only checked when someone reports it.

You’re assuming they have enough time to check all these people’s names at character creation or shortly after. That’s not likely. It’s more time efficient for them to let people create names and then only check the reported ones.

Hate to tell you but “Pounding” can certainly have a sexual connotation that some may find “offensive”. Personally, I think it’s PC gone insane, but they obviously try to keep the game “G RATED”.

Some female armor isn’t really G-rated, however I’m sure that’s just subjective. Anyway, I’m sorry you got a suspension for that name (providing that’s the only issue). So you can use Pounding, but not religious figures (as using then name references them) and you can make celebrity/famous people’s names (as that apparently doesn’t reference them).

That’s why they have verified accounts on Twitter so not just any “kitten” can create that name. But hey, maybe being backwards is the new trend. Good luck with your naming issues, I hope they get resolved. NCsoft’s Q3 for this game wasn’t great, the last thing they should do is alienate the player base.
