Hey,
I’ve been playing for the past 9 months with variations of “kurbstomp” on my chars and my account name. Tried to log on to my warrior today and it’s asking me to change his name from “kurbstomperz”, I’m curious why it would of been reported and why only now?
Thanks.

Try Urban Dictionary?
From naming policy: Reference sexual acts or real life violence

If urban dictionary was used for peoples names, which is a site made from random slang without taking into consideration proper definitions, many people would be forced to name change. Half the words in that dictionary are stupid.
Id honestly hope it isn’t used to judge if ones character name is acceptable.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think your name meant?

It is merely two words put together, very similar to the majority of the population on this game. If you check the definition for astral, I think that’s quite inappropriate, assuming that’s how one judges a definition these days….

As my name isn’t suggesting I’m doing the action, I don’t see the issue.
Aww, c’mon Astral. Surely it means to dance voraciously upon a curb, right?
Because that whole Google page showing me numerous references to the American History X curb stomping scene couldn’t possibly be behind this name. Nay I say, never in life!

You may not see the issue, but likely you will need to rename all your characters, as well as change your display name. Some find it offensive.

(Shrug) I didn’t know what a curb stomper was before today but its kind of hard to believe you made the name up completely at random. Usually when someone makes a name, they have some meaning in mind, which is why I asked you. You said you just put 2 words together, I suppose at random, without any meaning meant. If I had chosen the name Curb Stomper, or some variation, innocently. I would have some idea what I personally meant by that name. Some sort of reason. People don’t normally pick totally meaningless names. The reason for the name may be frivolous or personal, but not meaningless.
Since you thought your name was meaningless and you now know what the meaning is, you shouldn’t have any problem with changing it. ^^

You are not forced to change a name cause it is in urban dictionary.
You are forced to change a name cause several people in the game where offended by the name and they reported you for it. To prevent mis-use of the system a GM checked it and agreed the name can be interpreted as something offensive.
I truly wonder why you want to hold on to a name now you know it means something really offensive and that allready got people offended enough to report you.
It isn’t important what kind of personal meaning you give to a name. The naming policy isnt there for the protection of the person choosing a bad name, but for those seeing the name in chat and above your head.
The result of a ‘well’ executed curve stomp (if the victum would survive it) is that the victum will have all teeth removed from their mouth. The victum will have broken jaw, severe head trauma, wich likely results in permanent brain damage and a broken neck.
A little bit of google results in a pretty good picture what someones face looks like after wards. I’m not going to link it cause it is really really bad. But if you still need some conviction bout how bad the name is look on google images for curb stomb result. the one im talking bout is a bit downwards but you will very likely know what I’m talking bout when you see it
I had the same problem with a name my little sister chose for her character…wanted to use a short way of Pimpernel so she used “Pimp”. We are not English speakers, we had no clue it had an offensive meaning before receiving the warning…I really wish there was some “detector” forbidding us to use wrong names in creation, to prevent this kind of things…

There is, but it misses a lot of things. It is also the main reason why people who are a first offender when it comes to names are not suspended for 72 hours. In generally Arenanets policy is that warning people doesn’thelp, so anyone who breaks the ToS for the first time gets a 72 hours suspension.
The only exception to this is a disallowed name. People get a suspension till they have changed the wrong name but not the 72 hours.

“Astral” has a normal, everyday, non-slang meaning. I rather wonder what you think a normal, nonviolent meaning for “curbstomp” is – because no one buys that you just happened to put two random words together completely innocently. That’s possibly a worse excuse than “it wasn’t me, it was my little brother.”
Hi Kurbstompin,
While I understand the frustration, it’s always best to contact Guild Wars 2 support over issues like this if you haven’t already. If it is indeed something minor or accidental, they do have the ability to reverse it! Give it a shot and see what happens!
Later!

Actually, there is not even a valid slang meaning at that link. Those “bad” entries where added to harass a person named “Astral Entity Josh” so linking them as proof that astral has a negative meaning is really stretching it. The ops name on the other hand is pretty offensive and there is no way he can convince me he did not know what it meant. A perfect example of a completely justifiable forced name change.

I willing to believe that OP picked the names kurbstomperz on his warrior and kubstompin as his character name COMPLETELY innocently. Why, he told me he picked the two words completely randomly and they were TOTALLY without meaning for him. If this isn’t true, this means not only did he pick a name that violates TOS and is pretty nasty, but that he got on the forum and LIED about it. And EVERYONE knows that never happens.
/sarcasm
TL:DR. No one believes you OP, not even you believe you.

The term could also be seen as related to a hate crime. The first time I heard the term it was used in the movie American History X. The brutality was portrayed during a hate crime in the movie. After the movie became popular I started seeing the term thrown around much more. Of course it could be less related to that now as the term has made it’s way through the slang grapevines but the action itself is still deplorable.

I’m not even really bothered by the name; after all, this is a game where I shoot things with arrows until they die. It’s when they start proclaiming their pure snowy innocence like they’re the first person ever to come up with the idea that I get annoyed.
(And in case anyone was wondering, I didn’t pick two words at random. I picked an archaic term for an over-educated, hopelessly unfashionable woman. )

This thread has gotten well out of hand. The display name of the OP will be changed. It is truly offensive and cannot remain in the game.
Yes, you disagree. But the decision for both offensive character name (or names, if spotted in today’s review) and for the display name remain in effect.
