I have Nvidia 675M on a laptop that is only 1 year old. On lowest settings I am used to getting around 30-40 fps in WvWvW.
Tonight I basically cannot play. Framerate is averaging 12 fps just from standing still. And yes, I already reset the graphics options back to low.
I’m also noticing that the game is running 4-6 degrees hotter on the graphics card than before.
Reading through other similar topics, the common thread seems to be Nvidia cards. Why you have no love for Nvidia, Anet?

First off, if that’s the case, we need to monitor your GPU and CPU temps. Overheating (even if not excessive) can decrease fps like it’s nobody’s business! Is this 4-6 degrees F or C, please clarify? This is especially important on a laptop. Post both temps after running the game for 10 minutes.
2nd, try deleting your local.dat file (my documents/guild wars 2), then reload the game. This will reset all of your saved settings.
Also, could you post what CPU, ram, and OS?
Check your graphics settings in game. I noticed the latest patch changed all my in game settings. It turned on reflection on for all, max post processing also for me. I wouldn’t have noticed it but I’m running Sweetfx since running that with bloom is blindingly bright.
Previously I had 50-60 fps with my haswell i5 and Nvidia 560GTX in LA, now I get 9fps in LA. Can’t play the new content, so thanks a lot Anet, what did you do.
Check you in-game settings Legacy, most peeps graphics settings were modified by this patch. Also, check my post above.
If you don’t have temp monitoring software, this one is awesome, post a screen of it if you want for us to look at. This one is awesome for troubleshooting several issues:
Aridia,
Please re-read the last sentence of my original post.
Kyllaa,
I submitted the output of Game Advisor and ArenaNet.log to support with all the details because it is clearly a game patch issue. I do not find it coincidental that people posting here with the same problem all have an Nvidia card. Every time there is a patch with a graphics change, Nvidia card owners seem to get screwed. Game ran fine for me since release on auto-detect graphics settings until culling was removed. That was the first time I had to lower my graphics settings WAY down and from then on I have always monitored temperature and fps. This patch is now the second time, which is what makes it so frustrating.
For reference for people reading this, my laptop is an Origin PC 15-S Pro, only 1 year old. The CPU is Intel i7-3720QM, 16G of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I am sad to report that after about 20-30 minutes of play tonight, the system shutdown. I monitored the temperature while I could. It was 102-103C the whole time. I took video of my gameplay experience with the graphics options ui open and will post it later. Seven FPS just from standing still. That ain’t right. Ain’t right at all.
I may try with the Nvidia beta driver tomorrow.
So you did check your graphic settings Chaba? Because I know mine was altered majorly by the patch.
I have the same issue. I have a GTX 670 OC and i usually got 50-60fps on Ultra (apart from reflections). Now my frame rate has been trimmed to 20-30fps… I have exactly the same settings as before. Tried recreating local.dat file and messed around with drivers. Nothing has worked so far.
I find it strange how my settings were lowered after patch, as if was almost expected that i would get a lower framerate…
Restart the computer, it worked for me

It not just Nvidia. Having the same problem with my HD6850. Stripping/cleaning the card till it was spotless and reapplying thermal paste helped bring the temps down but the performance is still terrible. Even with settings set to minimum.
To whom this may concern at ArenaNet,
After that last update I noticed longer loading times and reduced FPS. For the most part, the game has come a long way since initial release as far as optimization goes, but after the last patch it has reverted. Below are my details.
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6 LGA 2011
CPU: Intel Core I7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6Ghz (Quad)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4×4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 2133 (PC3 1700)
GPU: GeForce GTX 660 Ti
SDD: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB SATAIII
Internet: DSL 8.0Mpbs (CenturyLink)
I’m at work and not at my desktop, but I sit on 60FPS in LA unless I’m moving around, which then drops in the 50s or around.
The new map in Divinitys Reach was in the low to mid 20s, even tweaking the graphics the FPS was still low. A large amount of Lag. I can provide In Game settings as needed, or any other additional info.
Sincerely,
D.Rose
Don’t forget that within the new crown pavilion there is A LOT going on! There are a ton of people zerging about, a lot of different lighting and a variety of effects (smoke, wind/steam, water, etc from the environment).
This is going to cause some issues for some people.
However, there seems to be some memory tweaks that anet implemented, it’s possible that they are trying to shift some of the CPU load that we previously experienced to the GPU and now it’s taxing that too.
Making sure your fans, heat sinks, and dust bunny residents are evicted could help, but there could be other underlying issues for overheating (not enough cooling/ventilation, fans that aren’t running as efficiently, insufficient power, etc). Laptops in particular are compounded by any of those issues.
Just keep an open mind when troubleshooting issues like this. These hardwares are designed to run under load, but if they aren’t maintained or have aged significantly (3 years isn’t a new vid card for example) or have seen excessive use, they may not be up to par. And gw2 is a strange beast that has an interesting way of finding hardware that’s read to quit or so and draws that out. That’s what happens with a game that is as resource intensive (taxing) as gw2.
