Q:
Free Upgrade to Digital Deluxe Edition?
A:
Here’s some info for those asking about this offer:
- New accounts can purchase the upgraded Digital Deluxe Edition of Guild Wars 2 for the same price as the Standard Edition.
- There is a limited time on this offer.
- The upgrade is available in the BLTC for 2000 gems.
- Yes, if you purchase the upgrade, you get all the goodies, the Miniature Rytlock, the ring, the buffs, etc.
- You may upgrade an existing account at any time — there’s no short timeframe for upgrading, but the offer is short-term, and after that the DDU will be sold at a higher price than the Standard Edition.
Hope that helps!

I wondered the same thing; let us know guys! Would love a mini-Rytlock running by my side!
It’s free upgrade with purchase of a new account. Much like “Get a free android phone with new contract.”
If you will notice, the basic account is $59.99 (Or your currencies equivalent.) the deluxe is also $59.99. Which is a free upgrade.
Aw, and for a moment, I thought I could get Digital Deluxe for free :(
Can we pay a small premium to upgrade perhaps?
Can we pay a small premium to upgrade perhaps?
Sure. 2000 gems in the gem store.
Perhaps it will be one of the next 3 “Black friday” deals. Check tomorrow.
Emphasis on “small” hehehe…. Here’s hoping they’ll discount it
But then the description is indeed very misleading. Buying something you haven’t had before is not an upgrade. Having something and then purchasing something to make it better, that is an upgrade.

THEY upgraded the Digital edition to Digital Deluxe. That was a free upgrade worth $20.
Perhaps it’s a culture issue. In the US that form of advertisement. (Called an upsell or incentive).
It’s most frequently identifiable for cell phone companies and the like. They offer “FREE PHONE!” for people who buy a new contract.
So in this instance the contract is the account, and the phone is the “Free upgrade from basic to deluxe.”
I purchased the digital standard edition from the official site maybe a few hours before this sale started. Does that mean that if I ask if some leeway could be extended to have my account upgraded, the answer would be no?
My leeway is a matter of days too, though after the trial period was over. I opened a support ticket as a refund, planning to repurchase as deluxe. I’ll add info on how it goes, once I get a response.
They may have upgraded the standard digital edition to a digital deluxe edition for just the standard price, but they could have worded it better, to me and to many people like me in the USA and across the world a free upgrade is taking something that exists currently and improving it, like say, all their standard customers get a free upgrade to the deluxe edition.
That is not how they meant it, so to avoid confusion they should have said something like “Black Friday Deal: If you buy the standard digital game at regular price from our website and participating retailers today, then we will upgrade your account to a deluxe edition absolutely free!” They wanted to save space on their website, but they should have figured out a way to do that while still keeping the message clear that only standard digital editions bought from valid retailers would be upgraded for free today only.
But then the description is indeed very misleading. Buying something you haven’t had before is not an upgrade. Having something and then purchasing something to make it better, that is an upgrade.

OK then!
I don’t see my copy of Digital Edition upgraded to Digital Deluxe at all!
THAT is what I need to see. I don’t see MY pet hanging around.
I AM SERIOUS! Get me a button that tells: “You, my dear client have been granted a FREE upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition, and all you have to do is click this button, with NO charge at all.”
Cultural difference said someone… a cultural difference is like a skirt, or the color of my bedroom, not an advertise lie.
MISLEADING=LIE.
I say white snowflakes, but you get beige ones. And then I say: It’s a light color, ain’t it?
Oh wait, I was MISLEADING YOU! And so you’re stuck with beige snowflakes.Whoever thinks otherwise is either not using many neurons at once, or simply had their common sense severely ground by Television.
It was a Black Friday deal, today only I am guessing, Black Friday is a very unofficial holiday here in America that was just a whole bunch of companies deciding to have a big blowout sale in preparation for Christmas right after Thanksgiving in America. Like, the day after. You probably don’t have those things on your account because you didn’t purchase it the day of the sale, either you bought yours before, or just after they ended it. THAT is probably why you don’t have that stuff.
Is it misleading? Yes. Are they misleading us purposefully like you make it sound in your post? Maybe, but highly improbable. More than likely they wanted to save as much space as possible and figured the words “Free Upgrade” were the smallest they could go… Probably not the best idea to do that though, because yes, it is misleading.
Let’s wait a costumer support, if they upgrade standard to deluxe, all of us that bought game on standard need to have upgrade.
Glad this thread was opened.
I bought the game within the free trial period, and now i wish i’d waited a little longer. I hope they give us a little leeway and upgrade those who bought at standard price.
We could’ve gotten the DDE.
So i’ve bought the game from a local retailer 2 months ago; what happens if i choose to upgrade to digital deluxe edition? Do i get the pet/skill to my existing account, or i have to make a new one and start all over? Can somebodt plz clarify? Thanks
Not gonna happen. Wait all you want. The sale is “Buy Basic account, get upgraded to deluxe for no additional charge.”
That’s what it is. No more. No less.
I see that a couple of people were confused by the wording. That was not our intention, and if you think about it, why would we suddenly give away hundreds of thousands of upgrades just “out of the blue?”
This is a promotion for the Thanksgiving weekend/Black Friday event. I’m sorry if you were confused, and I will pass along your comments to the Sales and Marketing Teams.
