So I remember people complaining on TS that they had very frequent GW2 disconnects, and that it had been a problem only occurring with certain providers. They didn’t disconnect from TS, only from GW2. (I remember them saying something about kittenty routing from EU to US and back...)

Since about a week, we seem to have that same problem now. :/
We play GW2 sitting next to each other and everything works fine, then suddenly a lag spike hits us that causes a simultaneous disconnect almost every time. After that it sometimes takes up to 10 minutes until we manage to log in again. Meanwhile TS and Skype have no problem at all, there is not even a little bit of lag on VoiceChat.
It doesn’t matter ’where’ we are ingame when the lag spike hits us. I could be PvE guesting on an other server, while my friend is in WvW, still both of us get disconnected. Also if only one of us is ingame and the other one is playing something else or watching a video live-feed or something, the lag spike only occurs to the one playing GW2.
We didn’t have disconnect problems in the past and haven’t changed our internet setup. Since about a week now we have that kind of disconnect very frequently, about every half an hour.

We updated the firmware of our router, but that didn’t help. The support of our internet provider (teletronic austria) told us that they don’t have any technical problems at the moment.

Could anyone that has experienced similar problems in the past let us know if you managed to find out what had caused it? What was your solution on fixing it? We really would appreciate your answer! :)

The Guild Wars 2 ‘EU’ servers are actually located in Texas. That’s what is causing your problem, and the only way it’ll be fixed is if Anet stop going for the cheapest option on hosting. So don’t hold your breath

some facts as far is i could figure out through ‘resmon.exe’ ‘cmd ping -t’, ‘cmd tracert’ and ‘iptrackeronline.com’:

  • GW2 server adresses change every few hours or so
  • all GW2 servers seem to be located in Austin, Texas, USA
  • GW2 related so far I could only successfully ping the login servers. whenever i try pinging the current ip adress of a GW2 game server i am on, a server in France tells me that the network i want to access is not reachable. that’s the last server on the ‘way’ before reaching plaync (cdnetworks-gw.ip4.tinet.net). all other plaync servers just give me timeouts. (“Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.”)

i traced my connection to the GW2 servers and this is the rout:

  • a few adresses related to my provider in Austria, leaving through uta.at
  • adresses in Sweden related to tele2.net (still 1 to 2 ms)
  • next stop is France, two adresses that are related to tinet.net (up to 40 ms)
  • from there adresses related to plaync.com show up last (Austin, Texas, USA) (up to 20 ms)

i kept pinging every adress on that way and checked what happend as soon as a lag spike hit.
EVERY server NOT related to GW2 keped responding smoothly. only the GW2 server i was pinging did not. for some time insted of a sucessfull ping, an error message kept showing up, that the valid time of the transfer has been surpassed. (“Die Gültigkeitsdauer wurde bei der Übertragung überschritten”)

so my conclusion: the fault has to be either at the connection between tinet.net and the GW2 server farm, or within the GW2 server farm itself.

PLEASE ANet FIX THIS SOON! CURRENTLY PLYING GW2 FOR US IS ALMOST UNBEARABLE.

Actually the European Servers are located in Frankfurt, Germany, which is why most European countries are recommended to connect to those servers. They’re a lot closer and tend to have a shorter ping time. That being said, there have been issues in the past where certain European ISP’s have had issues routing GW2 data, causing frequent disconnects or preventing connection entirely.

Getting similar problems myself. Constant 0.5-2 second delays or sometimes even worse. After logging out/disconnecting, can’t log back in (unable to gain access to the log-in server). All this time my internet is otherwise working fine, speed tests show no sign of problems, download speed is working at max. It’s quite clearly a server issue and it’s making the game unplayable.

well, iptrackeronline.com tells me that every GW2 server ip i have checked so far, is located in Austin, Texas, USA.

i will try to trace a game server ip right during a disconnect and get back to this thread as soon as i have the information.

at the moment i am on Dzagonur [DE] and resmon.exe tells me the IP addresses that GW2.exe is connected with are 206.127.159.122 (game server) and 64.25.47.121 (login server)
if i trace the game server, i get (as already listed above):

Verify your server-ip by typing /ip while on your server. I don’t think you will be seeing ~20 ping from Germany to the U.S. The EU servers are at the Frankfurt, Germany MMO server farm location.

ok, so i managed to tracert one of the longer lasting disconnects where i couldn’t log back in for a few minutes. here is the result:
interestingly the server that i had no problem pinging during the disconnects, still seems to cause the problem? could someone please tell me whom i have to spam with angry mail in order to get that fixed? :/

I would start with your ISP, they maybe able to forward the issue to tele2.net.

my provider sent my trace-logs to tele2 and after they were denying that they had any problems at first, they finally took care of the issue. so our disconnects are gone. hopefully it will stay that way.

I have the same issue. However, it’s only on my PC. In my brother laptop I can log in and play normally so I don’t think this is related to an ISP. I have changed my PC network cable, restarted my PC, checked my router, etc. I’m really confused.

Did someone found a solution for this issue?
