Frequent disconnects
I had a similar issue like this, myself – but I couldn’t tell if it was GW2 or my internet connection.
I reset my router and all has been well since. knock on wood
I got the same problem i tried everything…
And so do I. Infact I was just about to post! I have got the exact same problem.
This started TODAY for me, after the latest update/patch. And I have played since the release. So it must be the patch, atleast for my part. (You know the ones you get everytime you open the launcher.)
I’ve also tried EVERYTHING, I even tried with another network card.
Please, developers, give us an answer!
I have the same problem as mentioned above. It started today also, i have been fine all week so far, same set-up, same connection.
Can anyone shed some light on the constant disconnection issue? I know that it has to be an issue with ArenaNet, as so many of us are having the same problem, and nothing my end has changed from when it was working fine.
ArenaNet, any info?
*Edit: I am on the EU Server “Vabbi”
(edited by Ozmo.3692)
I’m having the same exact problem as danefushi and it’s been pretty constant for a few days now. Sometimes I can play for a couple hours at a time without experiencing any issues, but then there are days like today where I can’t even stay logged in for 5-10 minutes before I’m kicked out of the game and notice my modem blinking.
I’m also starting to feel like it’s somehow related to the game since it seems to be the only common factor when my internet does this. I can play other games, browse the internet and use stuff like Skype or Netflix as much as I want… aaaaand then I connect to GW2 and it gets rocky.
It’s a little comforting to know that I’m not the only one having this problem even if my urge to throw something across the room rises each time it happens! :P
Is there any info we can give that would help?
I am also having this problem. If I travel to another location or in a overflow then it seems to work fine. Just sometimes I cannot be in the location I want without it disconnecting every 30 seconds.
I have also done everything danefushi has. But I would like to add that my ISP is BT Infinity. I use a Asus N56U router.
No responses yet?
It may be possible that a handful of us have modems that are dying at the same time, but I have doubts about that. Are any of you able to try a new modem (not router) to see if the problem clears up?
—My ISP is Suddenlink and I called them about 3 weeks ago when this happened during a stress test. They said they couldn’t find anything wrong and my signal was strong.
—I have a wireless router, but the PC I play GW2 on isn’t using wireless.
—Directly connecting to the modem didn’t help.
—Rebooting my PC didn’t do anything.
—Virus/spyware/malware scans all come back clean.
—The only error message I get is that the game lost connection and it can’t reach the login server.
My connection was very stable until about a week before launch. I noticed that it seemed normal on days I didn’t run the launcher to grab updates or participate in stress tests. I’m not sure if that helps and I’m running out of ideas.

have you updated your network drivers lately by chance?
I too have the same problem since this morning!
I just experienced another one of these disconnects. It occurred immediately upon reaching the Blasted Moors vista in Diessa Plateau. There was a loading screen because of how you get there (trying to be vague in case someone wants to figure it out themselves) and then my modem started blinking before I could even hit F to view it.
It probably doesn’t have anything to do with that particular event taking place since I did it a second time without getting disconnected, but my connection definitely freaked out for a few seconds during the first trip. Now I’m scared to keep playing since there are usually more to follow once it begins!
have you updated your network drivers lately by chance?
No, I usually try to keep my drivers up to date and there haven’t been any recent updates for that.
I installed a new graphics card on the 23rd and this problem started during a stress test a few days prior to that, so I doubt it’s some sort of conflict there. There haven’t been any other hardware changes or driver updates besides that recently.

Been having the same problem since last night.
I’ve opened the ports, uninstalled AVG, and shut off my Windows Firewalls.
I get less than a minute of gameplay each time I try to play.
I also have this problem, client freezes and internet drops, this problem does not persist with other games or internet uses. I’ve tryed lowering the graphics to a minimal, and hung out in unpopulated zones, even closingprocess’s behind my computer that could take up memory. I still get these client kicks..
Having the same problem. Seems to only be when I’m using skype or mumble though. That part could be my imagination.
I have the same problem. And there are three operating systems on my computer. A messy windows 7 installed 2 years ago. A fresh new windows 7 install dedicated for playing Guild Wars 2. I also have FreeBSD for my work.
None of the three operation system drops my internet connection for months. I sit at my computer 12-14 hours per day.
When Guild Wars disconnects, usually my internet connection disconnects too for a minute. On both windows. They were installed in different years with different drivers not from the motherboard “CD” but downloaded Intel 1G driver.
The internet icon goes to red cross then blue ring several times and vica versa. Sometimes it goes to yellow mark. And after them it repairs itself. Takes a minute or so.
I have been having this exact same problem since yesterday. Everything was fine and dandy until yesterday. NOTHING on my system has changed what so ever. I’ve done all I can think of on my end. Checked all network drivers, checked my modem and router (which is a gaming router by the way), I am wired directly to my net so no wireless shenanigans, I even checked my net speed and phoned my ISP to see if anything was going on on their end and my signal check came back strong. I’ve even played other online games with no issues what so ever and as usual very low latency numbers. Only on Guild Wars 2 is this happening and only since yesterday for me. The issue is NOT on our end folks, its a GW2 server problem for sure.
When I get booted it doesn’t appear to me that my actual net signal drops or any of that, I simply get booted from the game every 3-5 minutes. So as of right now GW2 is unplayable for me.
Ever since the patch on the 7th of September i have been having disconnections from the game at intervals ranging from 5-20minutes, sometimes consistent. Nothing on my side has changed and other games such as LoL, BF3 and other applications run perfectly, as in no disconnections.
When disconnected i get one of two errors, “The game client lost its connection” and on one occasion it was something like “The game cannot find your privileges please contact customer support” i assume the last one is a bug.
As for other information:
Been playing since the 25th August daily with no such disconnection issues until the 7th Sept patch (early morning if i recall) No changes on my rig all exactly the same.
ISP = Sky Broadband
If any other information is required, such as tracert logs, feel free to send me a pm
same here. i never had problems until yesterday. started to get disconnected and laggy
I am having DC and lag issues also. I’ve never had them before.
Like others, I’ve been having terrible lag and disconnects all over the place, something I hadn’t experienced before. It makes every single aspect of the game truly unbearable.
Don’t think anyone else mentioned it, but I’m on the EU servers, if that’s any help or indication to what may be wrong. Also, definitely not an error on my (our) side.
Same here… but its less frequent… usually from 30 minutes to a couple of hours frequent.
I also forgot to mention it started before the most recent build, it has been so for several days now, especially during the noon and onwards. I think very late night and very early morning are a bit more forgiving, but not by far.
It must have been something in the latest build because it I am having the same problem and it didn’t start till I patched on September 7th. I can’t log in sometimes and when I do I get kicked after 5-10 minutes of playing. Please fix this so I can continue playing and having fun. Thank you.
Same problem here.
Login works fine, character select works fine, loading up the map works fine. But, as soon as I get control over my character my whole connection stops.
I was wondering if it was just the connection to GW2 crashing, but I opened up the cmd prompt and tried to ping google while this was happening and all I got was a long list of “request timed out.”
After closing out GW2, everything works fine again after 10 or 20 seconds…
Are those of you reporting lag, disconnects and login issues getting totally kicked offline as well? Not just the game… everything! Your internet service totally dies for a short period of time? I ask because I hardly ever experience lag spikes unless Anet is doing maintenance and I haven’t ever had any issues logging in.
It seems like my problem started earlier than most and I’m considering starting over with a fresh dat file since it’s possible something in there has become corrupt since April. I’ll let you guys know if it helps later.
No, Guild Wars 2 is the only thing affected, of that much I am certain. Again, completely and utterly unplayable, as opposed to anything else which runs as smoothly as possible.
Been like so for several days now, and no attempt to fix it on my end seemed to help.
It’s probably a different issue if GW2 is the only thing affected. The OP, me and a few others are totally getting kicked off the internet for a short period of time while playing the game.
There was an incident a couple of years ago when I was also having severe lag spikes and connectivity problems with GW1 and the problem was that my connection was hitting a bad node while on the way to Anet/NCSoft’s servers. It was like that for nearly a week until the people responsible for maintaining it got around to fixing it. (It wasn’t anything my ISP or Anet could fix since it didn’t belong to them.) Maybe it’s possible that some of you are experiencing the same?
Everything is possible, but so far the circumstances seem to point at GW2. If it ends up being an issue somewhere else – good for them, but until then my first guess is them and assuming it is, help would be nice.
The same started to happen to me after the recent patch but it had worked fine before that, same as for many people in this thread. Its frustrating because when you disconnect when in WvW you have to re queue when you get back on which can take ages in peak time A real game breaker.<
Only GW2 cause this. It doesn’t happen during any other activity that causes stress on the connection or computer.
I have tried the following without solving the problem.
*reset router
*change router
*Three different computers
*Update all drivers
*Downgrade drivers
*Different network card
*Different location in the same city and area thus diff connection(thanks gaming laptop).
*firewalls and AV software disabled
And probably a few other frustrated attempts at solving this while re queueing for WvW…
My server is Ruins of Surmia EU.
Huh, a slight update. I’m not sure whether something was done or happened, but I’ve just transferred over from my usual realm (Piken Square, EU) to a US realm (Tarnished Coast), and I see a considerable improvement in lag, though it still isn’t smooth. I did get a black screen once, but so far, the game seems to respond better in terms of connectivity – despite myself living closer to Europe than the US. I see several people mentioned EU so far – try and temporarily moving to a US server and see if it eases up the problem.
My partner and I have been getting frequent disconnects just today. They seemed to go away for a while, but now they have started again. At one point we were getting disconnected every 5 minutes, but no one else around us was getting it.
Hey,
I have had ridiculous amounts of disconnects today too. I can’t even seem to play for more than 15 mins now without disconnect.
i’m having the same problem. Had it this morning (uk time) at around 10-11am, left my group i formed for arah because of it. Then fine from 1pm – 8pm, and now i’m getting kicked out of pvp every 5-10 minutes and sent to the character select screen. Particularly annoying as you end up in mists when you relog, rather than back in the game you were in, thus missing out glory points you’d get at the end.
I’ve been having the same problems others has stated in this thread. I usually just get kicked to the character screen but sometimes it says it cant connect with the log in server either and shuts the game down.
Playing anything else or just browsing is still working.
Update: 08/09/12 – 11:12pm
After a full day of play i found that disconnects are during the mornings and evening, between the times of, estimated, 12-9pm i was disconnection free, however after that they seemed to come back at intervals of around every 20-30 minutes, these disconnections would take me to the character screen. I furthermore ran a test battlefield 3 and found no disconnections, i can safely say this is ArenaNet’s side.
EDIT – Additional information:
Disconnections only, no lag, ms is a steady 20-30
Disconnections started on the first patch on the 7/09/12
Disconnections happen in both overflow and normal servers, as well as instance servers.
Disconnections ingame do not affect my router/connection to the internet in any way.

This has been happening to me today and only today, since this morning’s update I am getting dc’d every 20 mins or so, sometimes less sometimes more. It knocks me out of the WVW queue and everything, very frustrating. I also get massive lag spikes while playing.
I too have been experiencing this, seems to have started today or at least it’s got to the stage today where it’s become extremely noticable (and frustrating).
Playing on EU Gandara.
I’m also with sky broadband, so maybe it’s connected. Anyone else posted here also using sky? I want to clarify though, my internet still works fine when I get dc-ed, i know this as i ran a download in the background, and after getting kicked to character select it was still running.
I have had this exact same issue for about a week now. Sometimes it happens so often that the game is unplayable.
This is happening to me also. Started 2 days ago. Playing fine for 10-20 minutes, game doesnt freeze, but lags out and i get kicked to character select with a network error message. Sometimes i can even see other people moving and acting normally although my guildies report me running across their screen in the inevitable straight line and into a wall / cliff / tree or worst of all, 30+ enemy players. =(
I spend all my time in WvW atm, if thats relevent.

If everyone can start adding there ISP, Location out of game (If you feel comfortable with it) and server perhaps ArenaNet can get an idea of whats going on.

Starting to notice a connection here seems that something in the patch clashes with Sky, just hope we get an answer soon and a fix asap.

I too am suffering from this. Everything was working great until today. I have tried disabling my anti-virus, set up a static IP address, ensured the required ports on my router are fixed open but it is still happening. It makes it impossible to enjoy WvW or sPVP and joining instances with friends is not possible due to losing connection.
It can be fine for an hour yet in the next hour might disconnect 3-4 times. It happens in PVE, WvW and sPVP.
I am glad to see here that it isn’t just me so hopefully this can be looked in to and solved.

48 Replies, 2nd most on the first page and no Mod reply? this distresses me abit.
May i ask a mod to reply at least to acknowledge they know that this is an issue? Even just a “Were looking into it” would be great!

Seems a lot of Sky, in the EU.
Your a Comcast guy though – and so am I. No problems here, but I’m on the Atlanta backbone.
