Q:

So i open the installer .exe it looks as tho it patches the first launcher. It then closes it and reopens the new “patched” launcher and stays at 0kb and then it poofs from view and never shows up and eats at the cpu at 100% and then it’s as if the installer is never there anymore till you close it

I have been having this problem also. It seems to have something to do with the graphics drivers that are installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Win 8 approved drivers from Dell for my machine. Game runs now, but I have terrible FPS rate. Still trying to troubleshoot this part. I suspect the graphics drivers released from Intel/Nvidia for Win 8 are poor, bugged, have not been thoroughly tested enough, just having a lot of issues in general…

I have been running GW2 on Windows 8 both consumer and release previews and haven’t had issue on installing them. Try to disable UAC and check your firewall settings.

@Saleen
You might want to post what dell model? Some Pre-Built PC (specially dell) aren’t made for gaming.

You did not properly install windows 8 then, I’m running the latest build, if you did do a clean install all your programs/folders from previous windows are located in window.old and you can find guild wars 2 in there if you had it installed already, therefore you do not even need to download/install it again.

I’m thinking of getting Windows 8. Can someone that is currently using Windows 8 confirm that GW2 still works the same as it would on a Windows 7 computer? Is the install of the game still the same?

Thanks!

Hello all,

Windows 8 and GW2 are fantatically compatible!

I must point out that, after backing up all the folders I needed to keep, I wiped all three of my internal drives (2 SSD 1 HDD) before reinstalling Windows 7 then immediately Windows 8 Pro (upgrade).

I first, after installing Windows 8, ran GW2 from an external USB3 SSD and had no issues. Then I thought it would be best to run GW2 from one of the inernal SSD drives. I installed GW2 from the shop bought hard copy disk then let the client and game update as needed. On running GW2 there were no problems. In fact, so far, GW2 on the same settings as ran on Windows 7 looks a lot better on Windows 8 and seems to run a lot smoother – though I have not checked FPS to date!

Please note that before installing GW2, I made sure that all drivers were up to date.

Now, to be honest, I can not comment too much on a Windows 7 upgrade to Windows eight in any other way than the way I did it. However, so long as all drivers are updated, there should not be any issues!

As another poster noted, a straight upgrade from Windows 7; ‘all your programs/folders from previous windows are located in window.old and you can find guild wars 2 in there if you had it installed already, therefore you do not even need to download/install it again.’

Remember too that some manufacturers use thier own particular ‘flavour’ of the drivers required for a computer. This may not seem like as much of an issue as it really is! It is always best to use drivers from the manufacturer of your computer when possible as the drivers for a particular device in your computer as supplied by the manufacturer of that device will likely not be ‘tweaked’ for best use with your computer as the version available from the manufacturer of your computer. (You can breathe now – lol )

@OP; This may seem obvious but my suggestion is to find your ‘old’ GW2 in the old windows folder (window.old) and try first to run GW2 from there. Should that prove fruitless, maybe totally uninstall (not simply delete) then make sure all drivers are correct before trying a new install of GW2.

Sorry I have no other suggestions just now – hope you find a suitable fix soon.

EDIT for info: Acessing ‘Control Panel’ in windows 8 is a breeze! I do not wish to sound like I’m putting anyone down so to say and I know we all probably can easily navigate the new OS but, Just in case, here is how I get to ‘Control Panel’ from desktop; Move mouse cursor to top right of screen – From the ‘side bar’ select the cog picture (Settings) – Select ‘Control Panel’. This is good for getting to Programs and Features’ for an unistall for example. There are likely other ways to access ‘Control Panel’ but I have not had so much time to explore Windows 8 enough to tell of them.

Cheers for that.

I had Win 8 preview but did not use it much so I’m just starting to get familiar with the new OS (as are most with it) so any hints like that are great.

KD, you get sorted yet?
