Q:
Full native client status?
Sadly I doubt you will get an answer here either. However, considering our Mac specialist is one person doing it in their time from other duties I would not bet on a native client anytime in the foreseeable future.
Honestly, seems any time a post like this pops up it seems to fall on deaf ears. I know I started one. It seems Anet really only cared about the bottom dollar and getting there money anyway they could. So they created a GW2 mac client in beta but really its just a client with a wrapper far from the real thing and have never even touched on the subject of bringing a full on native client to life. At this point I will play and enjoy guild wars 2 but I highly doubt I will ever invest in this company again. Let alone will I ever purchase anything in game with real money. I will soley play it based on the fact that it is free and I enjoy it. As far as the lackluster support for Mac goes though I am done Anet has drawn there line in the sand and refuses to seem to cross it so to speak.
They see these posts and In my year and a half roughly+ of play I have yet to see anyone actually comment on to the status or even if a native client is something we can ever really count on. As far as i’m concerned there silence to this subject is a clear indication of what we can expect.
Status of native OSX client: nonexistent, not in development
This is not a communication issue, they are well aware of our unhappiness about the situation, it just seems the numbers don’t justify making the investment into developing a native client. It’s nothing personal, just business. And as we all know, business sucks.
i can’t help it but to feel i got ripped off really bad. Every time i check this forum i see more complains and 0 solutions (literally none at all).
My gw2 is a box full of surprises.
Sometimes it runs smooth (by smooth i meant, at least 30 fps on everything lowest as possible, running gw2 by itself)
Sometimes i get huge lag spikes randomly, making it unplayable; and sometimes the game just runs on tetris fps.
thats very disrespectful to their clients. i honestly am starting to lose hope on mmo’s. this is the 2nd mmo that i buy and feel like i got ripped off (the other one was TERA)
What the heck is the matter with you people? It’s BETA software. It’s always been beta software. Arena Net has always been up-front honest that it’s beta software.
Where’s the expectation that it’s ever going to be something more than beta software? Do you people even know what beta software is or means ??
Todd. The issue people are having is that it’s been 2 years with absolutely zero development on the beta client (ignoring any kind of wish for a native client here, what I mean is that the cider port hasn’t seen any kind of development.) and on top of that the support we’ve seen here has been dismal, I’ve been around since the game came out and we’ve had at least three times where we were promised a support staff – each time that person has helped in a minimal number of cases and disappeared after a month or so.
I understand you point, but there is no need to be so nasty about it. People paid expecting to be able to play the game well and for a lot of people the client doesn’t manage that. None of them are saying tha they expect a native client to be in the works – they’re saying they are fed up with a 2 year cider point with no development and no staff support.

the beta tag suggests that the software is past development and in a testing phase, but in reality it’s the windows client (not a beta) running in an emulated windows environment (not beta).
when they announced gw2 was coming to mac, people expected/hoped for a native client. the expectation of it ever going to be more than beta comes from the word beta I guess?
mostly I’m a bit annoyed that nobody even bothers to comment on the development/existence of a native client.
few months ago I was wishing/wanting/asking for a native client, now I’d really just like to know what is going on.

THAT IS the reason why people need to start reading harsh words on this topic. “People paid expecting …” They have expectations when they should not. What they paid for was a Guild Wars 2 account. There are two ways to play the game with that account; the Windows way and a beta software Mac way. If they want to try the beta software, that’s great. But it’s BETA software, has always been BETA software and will remain BETA software until it’s not; which might happen or might not ever happen.
To buy an MMO account, install an alternative OS beta software client then complain that the beta software doesn’t work as well as the production-level Windows software and whine “why is it still beta” is too bone-headed for my patience.
I’m tired of the forum being bunged up with whiny posts for a magic unicorn “native” client which does not exist and no one should ever have expectations that it will ever exist. They distract from the purpose of the “Mac Beta Client Tech Support” forum which is, obviously, to discuss technical issues related to the Mac beta client software.
The topper is that any Mac user who really needs the blingy shinies of the Windows version can Bootcamp their way there and this choice has been available to them since day #1 of the GW2 release.
Yeah Todd if you go back months and months you’d realise that everything you are saying has already been said before by numerous people, myself included. Putting aside the native argument, which is a bit of a pointless argument, there has still been NO staff communication regarding the development of the client, there still continues to be NO staff support on the forums for people who are experiencing genuine problems.
Yes people played for an account, but the game was advertised and continues to be advertised as working on OSX, regardless of whether or not there is a BETA tag they’re still under an obligation to offer support for an operating system that the game is advertised as playable on. The fact that they don’t seem to have anyone on staff who knows what is going on when people do experience issues is a huge problem.
So yeah, everyone here knows that the client could be in a perpetual beta. The point is these people paid for a product and deserve to be treated the same as everyone else who also paid for said product. They aren’t though, and that’s a huge problem.
Also saying people can bootcamp in such a nonchalant way is kind of rude. In order to install Windows via bootcamp you have to pay hundreds of dollars for a windows install key. It’s not as simply as just switching over. So yeah, for people who can run GW2 in bootcamp it is a great option. But it isn’t a solution to bad support of a bad product.
What Falming said. I understand your point, Todd, but you have to be honest for a certain point: ANet advertises the Game to run on Mac and Windows and since there are people out there that buy the game for the Mac part, they may not necessarily expect it to be in a beta status that’s not working as it should be. ANet doensn’t even mention it on the Specs page.
Again, I’m not whining about the beta status, it’s about the lack of communication from the staff. If there will ever be a post like “hey guys, we’ve messed up and we don’t have the mac experience to get a full native client, we’re sorry but we’ll to our best to improve the existing one” that is totally ok for me.
It’s about no one saying nothing about anything. Only thing I read here is “we got a new staff guy working on the forums”, then he posts a “hey, I’m new and I’ll do everything better now” and then you won’t read him for another 1-2 months – at least here on the english forums. In our german forums, we haven’t hear anything for 4 months and counting from any staff member. That’s the point. I’m not begging for a magica unicorn and a miracle, I’m asking for a clear, honest answer.

“But it’s BETA software, has always been BETA software and will remain BETA software until it’s not; which might happen or might not ever happen”
wow great word, such sense, no1 would ever figure that out by their own.
When a company advertises that their game will be launched on OSX i expected something like dota2 or WoW where you actually have a client for the platform, as well as support and most importantly UPDATES
They deserve a petition and the worst review we can make.
No updates, little communication, so many problems. It is not a beta it is stolen money.

FlamingFox stop defending this crap game, are you paid by ArenaNet or you are just completely fool?

Did you even read what I wrote. Seriously, I condemned them for their complete lack of contact and updates. Like seriously, go and read what I wrote. Attacking me outright like that when you obviously had no clue what I was saying is ridiculous. I was defending the people in this thread who were complaining about the lack of updates, improvement, contact etc. but wow, thank you for being a complete kitten.
And just to be sure I double checked everything I wrote and your comment was completely and utterly uncalled for.
