Function Keys
You can change it in the mac system prefs under keyboard.
You can retain at least partial functionality of your media keys and only change the behavior of some f-keys with an app like FunctionFlip.
With that app, you can define that only the special functions of f1 to f4 are disabled, which leaves your media and volume controls intact.
You can also still use your media and volume function keys even with them all turned off by holding down the fn key located above the delete key (full size keyboards have this key I don’t know if “mini” or laptop keyboards have it.)

Go to system preferences, then to security and privacy section, and in the allow applications to download from part just temporarily check from anywhere and then download and install the app. After, just recheck from Mac App Store and trusted developers.

The easier way to give an untrusted app permissions to run is to right click it and Open.
