GPU Upgrade or new PC?
i would go for a new pc. i have the same gpu and i know it’s not that good but the rest of your pc is old too. just like what people told me an upgrade is the best way to improve performance.

Can you recommened any general pc setups that will go well with gw2?
You say ur budget is low. What is that xactly becouse in gaming/computing terms low could mean 700$. Where as for a less avid PC user it could mean $200.
Etherway we would need a figure to help put a rig together for u.

My budget ceiling would be around 550$
Sorry for not stating this sooner.

Ok gimmy a few mins and ill see what can be put together for that price, asuming u build it urself that is.
EDIT:

Its slightly above ur budget and requirs u to re-use ur old HDD and Optical drive. But tbh u really cant go much lower on the parts. The CPU is the most expensive thing there but is also hte most important for GW2, the Graphics card is also the lowest u want to go imo and isnt bad for the price considering its even got a OC on it.

Thanks alot! I went through the stickies and for some reason this one avoided my eye. This is exactly what I was looking for.
that FAQ isn’t made by Anet, so they don’t sticky it

I hate to say it..but I would build a new PC =\
if my memory serves me right, that socket that your CPU sits in is called LGA775...and even if you did upgrade to the fastest CPu you could find for it, even a "slow" i3 could still blow it out the water =\
but I just built a friend of mine a new PC for GW2 and she loves it!
AMD A8-5600K CPU
AMD 6870 GPU
8Gigs DDR3
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
700 WATT power supply
and a few other things, but I build her that for around $580
she can crank everything up in high and still get between 50-100 FPS, depending on where she is at.

Thanks everyone. All this input has is very helpful.
another build option using amd
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Cg2i
closer to your price, and easily overclockable to 4.5 or higher, also supports crossfire (could add a 2nd videocard later to boost perf)
thats the same cpu I have, despite my frustration I do get decent fps for this game……meaning decent compared to other players of this game, when compared to games like tera this game runs horribly……
oh well, just another option that would let you run the game very well for the money you have.
also would let you run fancycache and give your games drive an 8gb cache, should cut loadtimes alot it does for me.

Hello everyone.
I happen to have a small amount of money avilable and I was thinking of using it to get my machine up to date. As of right now I’m seeing around 20 fps in pve on low-med graphics settings. On big WvW skirmishes I have to get all settings to low to achieve a “playable” rate of fps.
I dont know too much when it come to hardware so I thought maybe some of you could help me.
Comp Info (taken out of dxdiag):
CPU – Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
OS – Windows 7 32bit
RAM- 4gb
GPU – NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GTI was thinking of upgrading my graphics card and leaving the rest as it is, but, as I said, I’m no expert and cant say for sure if thats the bottle neck in my system.
p.s: Please take into consideration my budget is quite low :P
Edit: Budget ceiling is around 550$
i would build a computer if you do , go with a 600 seires gpu or amd card like with anything its a hit or miss of how well it will perform and dont expect something that isnt realistic when it comes to computer performance lot of ppl do now when its dealing with games and complain about poor performance when they have $800 computers its usually driver issues that plague any game

duno, when its gw2, its normally because the games so cpu bound that you need to overclock any cpu you buy to get “smooth” play(30fps min) even then you cant guarntee you will manage it…..

Although your graphic card is quite low spec, the CPU will bottleneck any graphics card you upgrade to.
