Hey there!

Just had a new build a few days ago coming with a Gigabyte Nvidia 560GTX 1GB Factory Overclocked (GV-N56GOC-1G) and it runs the game well but it makes A LOT of noise (about 60-70 db) and heat (after 10minutes, my case gets really hot), even when I’m playing on the lowest settings! Same thing for Guild Wars 1 and it also lagged a lot (played with a friend and I always randomly teleported).

I find this a bit odd because my old nvidia 9400GT never had these kind of problems. It always ran cool and very silent when I was playing GW2 on lowest settings.

Running on latest drivers/updates

Here’s my system:

-Intel i5-3450 3.1GHz
-Gigabyte Nvidia 560 GTX 1GB OC (GV-N56GOC-1G)
-Motherboard Asus P8B75M
-RAM 4×4GB Kingston Hyper X
-Monitor Acer x223w 1680 × 1050 22 inches
-Case Thermaltake VN400A1W2N
-PSU Coolmaster RS-500-PCAR-A3 500 watts
-OS Windows 7 Professional 64 bits

Do you know for sure it’s your GPU and not your CPU fan making all the noise? Make sure your case is well ventilated. It sounds like you may have a ventilation issue. If it’s in a cubby hole (like some computer desks have) pull it out and run it in the open. The loud sound is most likely your GPU or CPU fan spinning up to try and cool the device.

If it is your GPU and the case is well ventilated, then I would recommend clocking your GPU back to stock speeds. GW2 seems to have an issue with OC’d GPUs.

Sometimes you can open the case and get some idea of what’s happening. Or using monitorting find out about fan speeds and temps of CPU and GPU.

If, for example, you isolate the situation to the GPU, you might find that the fans are kicked up high to cool it down because it’s under high load.

If it’s an overclocked GPU, factory or your own OC, you could try underclocking it.

Alright, will try this out. I’ll give you a feedback soon. And yes, it’s in a cubby hole but it never happened to me with my last build.

Yes but your previous GPU/CPU wasn’t kicking out nearly as much heat. A well ventilated system should at least have a fan on the front drawing in cool air, and a fan on the back (top is good too) pulling the warmer air out. Also if there are ventilation grills on the sides it’s a good idea to not obstruct them. Also the fans in the back shouldn’t be in an enclosed space as the heat will build up around it and the fans have to work that much harder to try and cool everything down. When you first stated your case gets real warm to the touch, that was an indicator that yous system is not ventilating the heat adequately. No case should get very warm to the touch.

Alright, I opened the case (and got it out of the cubby hole) and I immediately noticed that only 1 fan was working on my GPU. I managed to make it work (there was a piece of plastic stuck) and I don’t have problems anymore. But I noticed that the GPU fans arents spinning at the same speed. Is that normal? And I think I’ll let my case out of the cubby hole.

Also, this doesn’t explain my problems with GW1. I get very high ping (100-300) in American servers but on international it gets around 60-120. I have a high speed internet and years ago, I never had any connexion problem. I played with my friend yesterday (lives close to my home) and he didnt have any problem.

Excessive heat will explain it. But now the heat issues is taken care of, if the issue with GW1 still exists, I would say it’s something different. If you are playing on American servers with that ping that could be why your lagging. Where do you live? Cause with the pings you posted, it sounds as if you live outside the US.

What are your ping times for GW2? Check other MMOs and see if it’s an issue across all games. If so that would indicate a possible issue with your connection, if it’s just GW1, it’s more likely something going on in between (outside your local connection) or at their end.

As for the fans on your GPU, they should both be spinning at relatively the same speed, if the speed difference is very noticeable I would say that’s a problem. If the fan that is spinning slower is the one that got stuck, I would say it will probably go out soon. Sitting for a length of time with that much heat, and trying to spin but not able to, it’s probably damaged it. You might even consider returning the GPU for a replacement.

I live in Canada, Quebec so I think I should have a good ping but I’m lagging like hell and in GW2, I have no connection problems at all (don’t know how much but it’s very playable).

About my GPU fans, to my great surprise today, the fan that got stuck still didnt spin, I had to “give it a push” in order to make it work. They are spinning relatively at the same speed but I have to check it in order to be 100% sure. Do you have any suggestions on how to check its speed?

Then it sounds like a latency issue with only GW1 (something on their end?). As for the GPU, if you have to start the fan spinning, I would just go ahead and take it back and get a replacement. It’s gonna stop for good soon. However, if you want to monitor the fan speeds you can use MSI afterburner or some similar software.
