Hi
i just bought the game, installed it and let the auto setting set the graphics for me to see what the genral FPS is coming out at before i started tweaking and my GPU is hitting 100% which is a 1st for my setup on “auto settings” as i play mostly everything i own on high-ultra.
i am in the process of making a ticket while asking here if anyone else has had this problem.
i was looking forward to playing but i refuse to set my setup to subpar “low” just to stop my GPU sounding like a jets taking off cause of the unsual 100% usage.
CPU and memory arnt bottle necking so im confused.
thanks in advance

Nothign is wrong.
The 6970 is just under the geforce 560ti in overall benchmarks. In my experiance with GW2 settings at 1920×1080 max/ultra settings except sampling ..which is on native.. i get ‘almost’ always 99% load.
Now if your GPU is noisy when under such load then all that means is that you didnt look into how noisy you card can be when under such high loads. And tbh i didnt ether, thats why i have had to setup a custom fan speed curve so that 1) my gpu stays cool under high load, and 2) so it does that at its lowest possible fan speeds.
i sugest you get a program that works with your card that can create custom fan speed curve.

So you run a slightly overclocked 6970, did zero stress testing for temperatures, and now complain that it’s getting too hot…. am I reading this right?

your first-gen i3 has hit the ceiling, time to move on.

Tekwiz ..His GPU is maxing out ..meaning in the places he is playing atm (not WvW from what i gather) his CPU is coping. Will it cope when it comes across heavy populated areas ..probably not ..But thats not his question .his question is about his GPU maxing out ..which by definition means his CPU is keeping up…for now.

@deltaconnected.4058
no you are not correct, the temps dont go over 70….
and the fan is on a manual setting, the noise isn’t the issue, its the fact that on all settings this game is pushing my card to the point of getting noisy which none of my games do.i get an almost constant 60fps on BF3 with my setup almost with all setting on max and dont get 100% load

bare in mind i haven’t moved from the the 1st place the game puts you when you 1st start,as i havent gone more than 20 feet!.
“auto” settings should not make your GPU almost set on fire by the way.
i dont use auto setting on any game i own so

@tekwiz.8635
lol you do know its overclocked massively and doesnt even bottleneck on BF3 right?
im well over this games requirements also

Yea same here Ronson.
You gotta remember .. as nice as BF3 looks..a MMO can be just as demanding whilst looking less good.
Just becouse somthing doesnt look as nice doesnt mean its less complicated or easier to render.
Anyway my 560ti is factory OC’d to 950core and 2290mhz memory (4580mhz effective) and it runs at constant high usuage.. So its normal.
Also it dependso n the staritng area. The Sylvari have a REALLY demanding starting area ..closly followed by Asura..then i think it goes Char ..then human ..then Norn.

i agree to a degree but a £300 card should’nt be maxing out on auto, low, medium, high of the bat ect.
it doesnt happen on any game.im talking straight to 100% no fluctuating and eventualy locks up.i’ll load the game up now to check out the starting area name

You must be having overheating issues if its locking up.
and £300 ?! …my one cost £220 around april this year. For £300 you could get a current gen 600 series.
Anyway money aside. have you tried running the game on your card whislt its NOT OC’d ..it may be a OC’ign issue. it sounds coutner intuative but a OC could run worse on games that push the card harder than even some stress testing software does.
GW2 has proven to overheat some peoples cards becouse is pushes more of the cards components than the most popular stress testing software.

And why exactly shouldn’t it be maxing out?
If your PC or GPU can’t deal with the heat, either underclock it, turn down your house/apartment heating (or turn on AC), or limit frames to 30. Card locking up is a straight-up hardware issue, not game issue.

Ah hold up
The char cities have a odd issue with graphics.
Go into the GW2 settings when you have this 100% usuage ..set sampling to somthing different than what your running on ..wait for it to change. .then set it back. i.e native to supersample then back to native.
i have to do this somtimes. Its some weired bug.

you’re helping thanks Solar, delta is just trolling.
i’m just messing around with the settings and the sampling seems to be an issue i’ll get back to you in a minute

here is a screen shot of the game in fullscreen window mode at 84% usage
http://i.imgur.com/uMN3l.jpg?1
now soon as its out of fullscreen windowed mode it hits 100%.
bare in mind these are the games auto detect settings lol, which should be optimal for my setup but instead its acting like its all on ultra

so you are basicly saying when a game uses default “auto settings” or any other setting for that matter it should set fire to the rig and explode in a raging fit, cool story helpful guy.
with that logic atari games = the new crysis….

funny now i’m out of the area i 1st started i am getting 45-60 fps and GPU usage is now 65-75% in an area that is alot bigger and has more A.I and objects,go figure

Software can’t set hardware on fire. It can only point out obvious flaws in cooling.

If your temps are near-freezing as you suggest, why are you complaining about 100% GPU usage?

Ronson: Delta is 100% correct weather you like it or not. If you didn’t notice GW2 is a video game that uses your graphics card A LOT. Your personal opinion how your system should handle GW2 it is totally irrelevant. How you “THINK” it should run, & how it “ACTUALLY” runs are two completely different things, which you’ve already found out.
Other games you play are not Gw2, so stop comparing. It just doesn’t work like that. If your GPU is getting to hot, then fix it. If it’s to loud, then fix it. Don’t blame software for using hardware it’s designed for.

My settup:
I7 920 @ 2.6 turbo to 2,9
Asus radeon 4850 1 gb
4ghz memory
running all zones at 50 / 60fps
running busy events 40 / 50 fps
running 30+ people 30+ fps
running wvw 10/25 fps
Its a lottery ticket as i have seen people with 4 times a better system then mine and run much worse performance wise.
Also dont compare mmo’s versus random games, mmo’s need much more cpu power then other games.
GPU wise not so much as game studio’s want to have as much systems capable of playing their mmo as posible.
So GPU is normaly only to boost eye candy on max setting.
I use 12.6 Ati driver and O.C. my card to maximum on stock voltage.
Hyperthreading turned off in the bios as it doesnt have a impact in games.
Just double check all your stuff from temps to settings ingame / gpu menu.

turn off all the programs youre using to try and manage what you think is an issue, run the game in full screen and enjoy.
always restart the game after changing graphic settings.
