GTX 970—FPS drops to 7 about once a month
Got a similar issue with a GTX 770. Although my issue is a bit more complex. In short my FPS drops to unplayable and in your case a restart seems to help, but in mine doesn’t. Even turning of the PC doesn’t seem to fix it. Somehow gw2 uses 100% of the my GPU load (GPU-z), while a few weeks back this never happend. I also get lots of driver crashes, followed by a temporary black screen, even when i start GW2.
There is something really bogus in certain PC setups, with NVidia cards and GW2. But with all big companies, the customer is never right.
Any other game i play is totally fine and currently thinking of moving on and leave GW2 as it is.
Do you have a second bios on that gpu ? If so,try switching to that, usually the second bios has throttling disabled and a higher clock.Atleast thats for me on my gtx970 FTW+,switching to the second bios solved some issues i had in Watch dogs.
So I followed the recommendations in the sticky to update the Nvidia control panel power to high instead of adjustable or whatever, and it seems like some of the hitching has stopped (I didn’t even notice that there was hitching before, thought it was just some sort of loading lag). I’m going to wait and see if the problem ever recurs, if not, my theory is that adjustable power got stuck in low power mode and didn’t come back up to full perf.
Video seems more snappy in general. Going to mess with power profiles etc to make sure I’m always getting full power in-game but not while using a web browser.
