This has happened a couple times since the LW3 Ep6 update, not sure if its related

First it happened with a client crash and when i tried to reload my GW2 i got the Message stated in the Topic Title. I went into my game folder and it showed up as 0 bytes and i noticed two new files a .000 and .001 file type.

After trying to just run a reinstall repair, I still had the problem so I just deleted the game and reinstalled to new location.
This worked but is very time consuming.
But now again the problem occured, my GW2-64.exe is not a valid windows application.

I dont know if anyone else has encountered this or if this is a known issue. I didn’t think I saw anyone else post something similar in the forums

It’s a Windows error that means the executable is corrupted. In this case, it’s just an empty file due to GW2 failing to update itself. Gw2.tmp/Gw2.### are the temporary files created by the launcher when updating. If one of them is ~30 MB, rename it to Gw2.exe or Gw2-64.exe, whichever you were using. Delete all those files when done. If none of those files exist or are valid, redownload Gw2Setup.exe/Gw2Setup-64.exe and simply rename it to Gw2.exe/Gw2-64.exe.

If you have GW2 installed to either of the Program Files directories under C:\, move your GW2 folder somewhere else, such as C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. Program Files is a protected directory that needs administrative access to modify, which can cause GW2 to fail.

Your security software could also be blocking it, so whitelist the GW2 folder.

Alternatively, rather than download Gw2Setup.exe, which is an older version, you can manually update Gw2-64.exe instead:

First you need to retrieve the current build information:
http://assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com/latest64/101

The second number is the current file ID, which at this time is 1744951. Download that file and rename it to Gw2-64.exe:
http://assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/1744951
