GW2 Crashing System
I checked my Catalyst software, and this is what it said, comparing it to the stickied help thread:
Since my last post, i have kept trying to play with no success yet.
this time, i was able to get past the character creation screen, but then the client promptly crashed before i could get into The Grove.
I also got a pair of dual error screens.

You might want to try a disk check. To perform a disk check, go to ‘My Computer’ and right click the hard drive that has Guild Wars 2 on it. Then click ‘Properties’ and go to the ‘Tools’ tab. Click the ‘Check now…’ button and perform the disk check.

His memory usage is quite high as well, perhaps he has too many background processes running? Because something is causing his paged files and memory usages to be consistently over 80% and even at times, 90+%.
Just a thought from reviewing the long list of crashes.

You’re right, somehow he is using 20GB+ of RAM, the only thing I would imagine is a RAM disk or RAM cache. If its a lot of programs, we’re talking excessive amounts or like 5 instances of Photoshop open at the same time.

Yeah! That was the first thing that grabbed my attention… 93%… Okay that’s a lot… Wait 20GB!!! Something can’t be right lol.
I can rarely chew up 8gb and I run photoshop, illustrator, dream weaver, 5 finder windows, plus gw2 at times. Plus, I usually will have a browser (I use safari for that since chrome & Firefox are memory dogs themselves) open with roughly 10 tabs while updating/testing websites lol. And during this, I still had memory to spare.
Maybe msconfig is in order, or a massively thorough virus/malware scan.
well, so far still no luck, despite ending all other processes, and reinstalling drivers again, but this time Catalyst 12.4. With 12.4, the game client, but not the entire system when changing IN game settings.
I have been running 13.4 for a few months PRIOR, so i’m optimistic that it is not a driver issue. i do not update to BETA versions, and the AMD support site references 13.4 as CURRENT.
I went ahead and installed the 13.6 BETA anyways, which also did not fix the issue.
i have been using the uninstall AMD drivers too from the AMD support site between installs, so i don t think anything else is corrupting it. steam games play just fine, such as borderlands, torchlight 2, and saints row the third.
i am running 13.4 right now again, and i was able to get into Lions Arch, but when i clicked yesterdays AP chest in the corner, the game crashed again. if i am able to get the character selection screen, my characters’ armors and hair are visible, but the body skins and faces are not, as if they are invisible. changing any of the graphics options in-game seems to crash the client once the options are changed. for example, this most recent attempt, i opened the graphics settings in game, and tried to change a Medium setting to low, which crashed the system
i am going to move everything else off this drive, and then defrag it with the DAT file still on it – maybe if it is too fragmented, that might be causing the issue.
i had the game originally loaded on my main SSD boot drive, but have since been trying it out on my other steam games’ drive, to rule out my SSD.
oh look, daily reset…..

Something is going wrong on your system, you are using insane amounts of memory, something is running rampant. I really don’t think this is a driver issue for your graphics card. Also, have you run the disk check Ilithis recommended?
I could be completely wrong, of course, but I would start checking system processes and memory usage before you launch gw2 and after. See what is using how much.
if it is a memory issue, i have an updated monitor pic (attached).
this is what the monitor looks like when i first turn on the pc. after disabling everything i could think of, and uninstalling all my extra programs. i tired to taka a screenshot of when GW2 is not running, and a comparison shot of when it is loaded, but then the game crashed, and i have to post/type all this again.
the first time this crash happened it was right after updating to the Sanctum content. it happened ONCE the first week it was out, and i was able to enjoy a bit of it shrugging it off, but the previous week so far has had me crashing like crazy. since running windows 8 in November/December, i have pulled many all-nighters and have had maybe network disconnects, but nothing this serious.
i am hoping it isn’t a hardware failure of some sort, as the x58 platform is a bit older now, and my motherboard has been long discontinued, making replacements far beyond budget or difficult to find.
i will see if i can dig up my Windows 8 disc – i seemed to have misplaced it. once i find it i will go ahead and reinstall Windows this weekend.
If you can, try to get a screen of this while running gw2, preferably before the crash… If possible of course.
Go to your CCC and change antialiasing to application and try that out.

I have just completed a fresh install of Windows 8 PRO, and am slowly going through the process of making sure each thing i load works (games/apps, etc.). going to spend a few days without GW2, cause i am scared to reload it at this time. ima try to get the backup feature working first, so i dont have to reinstall Windows from scratch if it tanks more.
thank you for the inputs. as for the anti-aliasing suggestion, am i supposed to add a game profile for Guild Wars 2? my second post shows what i had as far as the settings go, but i did not make a profile for the game.
