I’m looking to stream Guild Wars 2 using xsplit on my twitch.tv account but I have been running into a problem with the stream lagging/stalling when action starts to happen. I was running it on 720p but toned it down to see if it would help but could not notice a change. I ran a bandwidth test at speedtest.net and my results are as follows:
Ping:46ms
Download:20.43Mbps
Upload:2.06Mbps
I read somewhere to do 720p you need at least 3Mbps upload correct? Seeing that im only at 2Mbps what resolution should I stream at to deliver smooth non-freezing stream and should any settings be changed in xsplit?

My PC specs are:
12GB DDR3 RAM
Intel I-7
AMD Sapphire 7970HD

My monitor is running at 120Hz idk if that would cause problems either?

Hey Codyrv

So I had a similar problem and have been doing extensive research into how to rectify the issue. From the specs that you posted, your problem is actually your internet. 2.06Mbps isn’t really enough to support Xsplits recommended 3k bitrate (In fact, their forums recommend 4200, but that’s actually kind of overkill IMHO).

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
-Make sure you are using a server with your Xsplit that is closest in proximity to your location.
-Restart your modem/router
-Set Xsplit to run 720p at 30fps
-Set your channel settings to 2100kbps with a 128bitrate

If it’s still not working, you’ll want to stream at 480p, 30fps. As far as “smooth” goes though… Nothing about your machine should prevent your stream from being smooth. But 2Mbps is kinda shoddy.

Hope this helps!

Also, I pulled this directly from Xsplit’s FAQ:

“Usually Quality that is set to about 7 to 8 will produce a good quality stream and will not suck you dry of bandwidth. VBV Max Bitrate should be set to match your available upload bandwidth while matching the resolution – see this table: 480p: 500-1000kbps 720p: 1500-3000kbps 1080p: 3000-5000kbps Remember that your viewers will have to be able to download the rate you choose*, so don’t set it too high. (We recommend using the bandwidth tester to help you figure this out). Setting a high Quality without providing enough bitrate to accommodate this will not provide the desired results – for example, setting quality to 10, resolution to 720p and a VBV Max Bitrate to 200 kbps will be nonsense.”

So try setting your quality to 7, just to free up some of that bandwidth.

I’d suggest drop xsplit and try Open Broadcaster Software does everything xsplit does and its free on game capture also uses less resource
