This has been happening for quite some time now. I use to have a (pretty terrible) laptop about a year or so ago, and whenever I played more than say, an hour the whole thing would just freeze completely. You could still see an image of what I last did, but the sound would be this continuous loop of…something. The sound was just terrible and for some reason would get INSANELY LOUD. I’d have to hard reset my laptop and wait for everything to cool down. I thought it was just the thing overheating.

But, now with this new PC, which consists of:

-EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB ACX 2.0+ Video Card

-Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

-Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

-Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 × 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

-Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

-EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

-NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case (don’t know how knowing the case would help but, every little information helps I hope)

And the thing is, this problem only occurs with ONLY GW2. Things I have tried:

-Uninstalling, reinstalling GW2

-Taking out both RAM cards and trying them both out one by one to see if there was anything faulty

-Cleaning out the PC

-Checking drivers are up to date (BIOS and graphics card, since NVIDIA doesn’t really let me forget there’s a new update nor does Windows 10….)

-Tried the 32 and 64 bit clients, nothing

-I’ve lowered all my settings down to basically medium, but yet this still occurs

-I once read overclocking can do these things kinds of things, so I went in to the BIOS and turned that off.

I really don’t understand and am at a loss at what to do anymore. I use to be able to only play on the most terrible quality ever, and this problem occurred. Now with this new, beefier PC, I should be able to play at maximum setting with no problems. Please, someone, tell me what’s going on and how to fix it. I don’t understand how a problem that happened with a crap laptop is continuing on a practically new PC. I have to literally play GW2 in small increments to prevent any of this happening.

Also, just today, something new happened. The whole thing froze again, however, this time I got something that said “IRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” error. That has never happened before because it usually just freezes everything and that’s it. I can’t go to task manager or anything, just freezes and I have to shut it down manually, wait a bit for it to cooldown (because I still think its an overheating issue), and then turn it back on.

What kind of cooling do you have for the CPU? Have you monitored the temperatures of the cores? I’m not an expert at troubleshooting computer issues but that’s the first thing I would check based on your problem.

Try testing each component. See if any of the tests causes the system to fail. Start by testing the RAM. Make sure all drivers are up to date and check for viruses/malware.

hi, i wanted to start by saying that you have a nice computer setup there. and the chance of this issue being due to overheating is low as the same thing happened on your laptop. but just to clear it off,

what cpu cooler do you use?

how many case fans do you have?

use speccy/hwmonitor/cpu-z to monitor your temperature.

and also please do this for me, download aida64 extreme, u can get 30 day trial and stress test using it to see if your computer hangs during stress test.

your case is a really good one with a lot of space for air flow, so unless you put really less thermal paste on the cpu, did not remove the plastic on the cpu cooler, or if the cpu cooler is not touching the cpu (might cause damage as thermal paste might drip on to motherboard, but if you did secure it enough, it should be alright.) connecting cpu cooler (Aftermarket ones which u probably bought cause u have a k version) is a 2-3 man job to do it perfectly.
