Will try to make this short.

Just started playing GW2 on my old gaming machine. (I know… I’m saving up for a new one.) I can play just fine for the most part (game is smooth when exp’ing) but having some issues the longer I play. Hoping someone can give me some insight as to what it might be.

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB
750 Watt Power Supply
NVIDIA® MSI|N570GTX TWIN FROZR III PE/O
4GB† Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz – 4 × 1024MB
nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
Windows Vista® Home Premium
SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 16MB Cach

My issues are:

Fairly long loading screen times (it is fairly random somtimes only 30 sec sometimes over a minute)

The longer I play, the more times I zone, the worse it seems to get.

If I play for an extended period of time the game will probably crash to desktop at some point.

When back at my desktop it takes forever to actually be able to do anything, everything lags and stalls until the game truly closes. This takes minutes usually.

I have had a few occasions where certain window menus are glitched out. EX: hero window shows no paper doll / Trader window totally glitched, showed a combination of all its tabs couldn’t click anything.

Had a few times after new zone loaded, it took over 3minutes for my character to actually appear and be able to move.

Can these issues be attributed to anything in particular? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

Slow memory, and only 4gb, can be a problem running some programs in the background along with the game. Try out Razerbooster it will optimize your system for the game and will provide u the best loads times u will get on that system, (remember to defrag the hard drive, very important).

I will definitely try that program tonight! I’ll look into upgrading my ram as well.

Hopefully this will tie me over until I can afford a new PC.

Thanks!

If you could attach a dxdiag to you post I can take a look at it. I am betting that your system is doing a lot of file swapping. VISTA is a resource hog, especially with RAM.

Type dxdiag from the run line.
Select the “Check for WHQL digital signatures” checkbox
Save all information to a text file via the “Save All Information” button
Attach it to your post

P.S.
I have to run on a tech call but when I get back ill take a look.

Memory: 2814MB RAM
Your memory is a bit on the low side so if you have a lot of background apps you can see a degradation in performance. It could be that your systems is doing a lot of file swapping or commonly known as paging.

“The operating system copies a certain number of pages from your storage device to main memory. When a program needs a page that is not in main memory, the operating system copies the required page into memory and copies another page back to the disk.”

The less memory you have the more paging that will need to happen. Releasing some of the memory back to the OS by disabling or closing background apps IE: Messengers/chat, browsers, etc. will help. Hint: anything in the tray is a app that is running

Close some of the background apps and give GW2 a try and see if that helps any. BTW, Your dxdiag looks good.

Also:
When running the game open up your “Task Manager” then goto the performance tab. Take a look at the memory and CPU usage and post it please. You may want to run the game for 20 min and compare how much CPU and RAM you are using after playing for a while to when you started the game.

On a side note:
The G500 mouse software is extremely heavy. I have one myself and know it is a bit of a hog all on its own. Not much you can do about that as the software is very handy.

You could add more RAM but to be able to use it you will need a 64bit OS or a program such as Fancycache. The later will allow files to be cached in RAM even on a 32bit OS you can take advantage of the extra RAM this way.

And a more common hint would be, check if you computer is clean on the inside and not clogged up, make sure you have the latest drivers for ALL your hardware (including motherboard, networkcards, soundcards, and what not…)

We are peace, we are war. We are how we treat each other and nothing more…
