GW2 on tethering
It has been reported that gameplay data usage is far less than streaming videos and is actually somewhere around 10-20 megabytes an hour for standard gameplay, though some have reported up to 50 megabytes an hour for some content that requires increased data usage. You shouldn’t have any issue with data usage while playing, but if there are any game updates then you can expect to have a significant increase in data usage. Minor patch updates are usually around 40-50 megabytes and are done only about 2-3 times over two weeks, but the major updates every two weeks are usually 250-500 megabytes depending on what is included in the update. Even still, you should not encounter any data usage issues with a 3 gigabyte data allotment per month if you are only using it for playing GW2.
I also recommend using software like BitMeter to keep track of how much data usage you have used during a month. It is completely free. http://codebox.org.uk/pages/bitmeter2
You can tell exactly how much you are using and how much you have left so you know if you will need to take a day or two off or limit how much time is spent in-game for a few days.
It also includes a data usage restriction meter. Just enter your 3GB data usage limit and BitMeter will warn you when you approach that limit. Should check it out.
