Hello there adventurers,

since a few weeks GW2 crashes multiple times a day. When it happens an error-box in windows pops up. Sometimes i can still play a few minutes (sound effects missing, item discription faulty when i mouseover items) till GW2 freezes. Its only the GW2 game, all other programms/applications are running fine when this happens.

Today i was able to copy the error log. Maybe somebody can read it and tell me what my be wrong.

Thank you and best regards
Hui Muh

It says you are running out of memory. Maybe some bad RAM, or some other reason.

Anyway, OOM means Out Of Memory.

Good luck.

Thank you. Now i found out that there are “oom-issues” with a 32bit system and nvidia GTX graphics cards at high settings. Im running a GTX 770 card on a windows 7 64 bit system.

The strange thing is, i only get crashes with GW2. Every other game or application is running fine.

i started the “-repair”mode of the client***
-lets see if the error eccurs again. if yes i will delete the “appdata” of the gw2 folder. maybe this helps.

Yes, I saw you had a 64-bit system, so I did not mention the oom/32-bit problem. You might try running some RAM tests, or re-seating your RAM, or something else. I’m no RAM expert, so….

If Healix, or sirsquishy come by, they could probably help you much more than I. =)

Good luck.

If you have everything maxed out in graphics settings its also possible to run OOM
in fights with masses of players like Tequatl or Karka Queen.

Normally that happens somewhere around 3,5k memory usage. Don’t know why
it happens at your system already at 3k.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

The game’s a 32-bit application and it ran out of usable memory. Even on a 64-bit OS a 32-bit app is limited to how much memory it can use.

—> Process Memory <—
Private: 3111MB
WorkingSet: 3064MB
PeakWorkingSet: 3121MB
PageFaults: 126087990
[DbgHelp.dll is C:\Windows\system32\dbghelp.dll]
[DbgHelp.dll version 6.1.7601.17514 (64/32-bit compatible)]

That shows 3GB being used which if I remember is the limit for 32-bit apps with the large memory limit flag set on a 32-bit OS. The game may be coded to not go beyond that even on a 64-bit OS where 4GB is allowed.

A temporary fix since you were 4+ hours into your play session is to shut the game down and restart it every couple of hours. Or there may be game settings that can help. Character model limit might be one if you are spending a lot a time around other players during your session.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

RIP City of Heroes

Many thanks for the answers.

For a couple of hours everything went fine. I did many events with a lot of people on the map. 30 mins ago the “oom error” occured again. I was running along an empty path to catch up a chestfarmgroup in the silverwastes.

In fact i played on mid details for a long time without having issues. Then somebody gave me the tip to set all options to max but reduce the character model limit to at least “middle”. This way i can enjoy the graphics and move/ rotate the camera quickly enough at big events.

I will try to shut down the game time by time when i play longer session.

That shows 3GB being used which if I remember is the limit for 32-bit apps with the large memory limit flag set on a 32-bit OS. The game may be coded to not go beyond that even on a 64-bit OS where 4GB is allowed.

The limit is 4GB and normally around 500 mb are used to map system stuff, so the
crashing mostly happens around 3,5 GB in most cases.

However .. we talk also about NVidia here, and who knows what they did again
with their drivers ..

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

The OP is using a 64-bit OS. Microsoft’s documentation says a 32-bit app has all 4GB of memory space for code on a 64-bit OS as long as IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE is set, which it is.

What I’m saying is ANet is forcing a 3 GB maximum use so the game will act the same no matter if it’s running on a 32 or 64 bit OS.

Design and code to the lowest common denominator which is 32-bit XP.

We are heroes. This is what we do!
