Game & Forums unavailable from Japan!
I have tried using a VPN to access the forums and the game, it works, but it is slow and I should not have to do this.
Could someone, anyone please tell me if there has been some official blocking action taken against Japan, Japanese ISPs or Japanese IP addresses?
It could be possible as you say, that you are in a batch of addresses that are commonly used by botters/spammers and they’ve been black listed or what have you. I think you’re gonna have to contact Anet support directly about it and give them the info.
I opened a ticket with support.
In the mean time, I have confirmed that I can not connect to any NCSoft websites.
That means, typing ‘NCSoft’ into Google, and clicking on any results—for example, their main home website and Aion and it’s forums.
This is definitely an IP block of some description. It’s infuriating.

I’m guessing (pure speculation) there is some reason specific Asian IPs are being blocked (likely a DoS attack or something similar originating from within the blocked IP range). This is often a first step emergency type response to such an attack, to allow operation for the remainder of the world to continue while the “source” of the attacks gets addressed.
Again, pure speculation.

The support people are following a generic problem solving process which, while probably unavoidable is not really effective. (I’m still at the stage of sending them machine configuration data)
Incidentally, new IP address acquired, connection is now possible. However, whether that is due to NCSoft lifting the block, or my new IP address, I can not say.
