Game Freezing/Crashing
I’ve experienced a similar issue. Whenever I join an invasion event (the Scarlet invasions), my game will lock-up/freeze, without crashing to the desktop and without displaying an error. The game will just freeze, and I will have to alt-tab to kill it.
I haven’t tried WvW, so I’m not sure if this is the same bug.
This happens on multiple PCs, for me.
I’m crashing too every 15 mins after the last patch of today…. Very weird how they fixed crashed and since then i’m crashing. it happens all the time for a couple days if they fixed something that has to do with crashing…. cant even finish 1 personal story.
I get this too. ATM I can’t even log onto one of my characters…
My partner has this too, but I don’t and we have the same system. It’s really weird how the crashes started up again over night. He’s had them before but after removing his local.dat file a couple of weeks ago they were pretty much gone. Now they’re back and it seems they came back with a vengeance because he crashes nearly every 30 mins now to the point the game is unplayable..
I wanted to add my name to this problem. I’ve suddenly been having random crashes (about 7 so far) over the past week or so now. Most of them have come from selling at the Trading Post, but I’ve also had a couple of crashes during the invasion events (highly frustrating).
I don’t have a black screen or anything, the game just completely freezes and the crash reporter dialog window appears immediately.
It’s likely something in the game’s code. Nothing at all has changed on my end. Same hardware and drivers now as I had before the frequent crashes.
Edit: I wonder if the removal of culling has had a hand in this… I know nothing of the inner workings of it, but removing culling was one of the big new updates to the game recently.

I’m also freezing up every few minutes. No screens or errors, just the game freezes and stops responding. Never had any issues before and all of my drivers are up to date. The game is quite unplayable right now.
I have been plagued with this issue for about 3 months now. And the game is unplayable. I can play any other game I have with out an issue but gw just keeps freezing every 3-30 minutes and I have tried EVERY single fix suggest on the forums. Out of curiosity what PC’s do you guys have? (I have a dell xps 15)
I’m going to chime in here as well. Wife has been having terrible crashing issues since the living story stuff started a few months ago. Prior to that she never crashed. It often happens in WvW, but also can randomly happen out in the world. There is never an error code given, but often some random, “memory can not be written” box pops up.
She has updated all of her drivers, run the repair tool, and even reinstalled. She defragged her drive and did a full clean on her PC. None of these things worked for her. She and I both play on the same internet running through the same router, and I never crash.
Occasionally it’s a CTD, sometimes it’s simply a lockup, and other times it’s a blackscreen. We need some help please.
I’ve been crashing loads as well over the past few days. I’m using a dell xps 15 as well. My crashes don’t lag up or anything before, it just dies out of no where…
I am having the same issues as everyone else here. It has only started recently, probably the start of the Queen’s Jubilee stuff, but its gotten a lot worse since the Clockwork Chaos update.
I am able to access the login screen, sometimes I can load a character, but that’s about all. On the off chance it does load one, the skill lag makes it unplayable, or it takes so long the connection will drop. The majority of the time when I click on a character it just sits on the loading screen, with the music of the area playing in the background but nothing happens. I have tried leaving it for a while to load, but it loses connection in the end. I have tried the -repair fix, updated everything possible, reinstalled the game itself but nothing seems to work.
I am using a Dell XPS 17, on Piken Square EU server.
Edited on 2/9/13 – I have just tried it in compatibility mode and it was going strong for about an hour, before it dropped the connection and locked up totally. Just when I thought I had found a solution

Is this a Dell problem?
If you post please include your computer specs, I just ask because 3 people have been using Dell laptops.
Something from Anet would be nice, as my girlfriend can’t even play at the moment.
I have an acer gaming pc that’s runs all other games no problem but in the last couple of months games crashes and lock ups are making this game unplayable.
All fixes tried all drivers new all other games play well.
Come on Guys get your fingers out and get this stability issue sorted or you are going to lose lots of players and respect.
Same thing here, since the Clockwork Chaos patch, wife’s pc keeps randomly crashing, except it’s not a dell, but a custom pc. It’s running a Geforce GT 640 graphics card with current UTD drivers. Running repair files is getting ridiculous. Please get this issue resolved, we’re a hair away from leaving until issues are addressed.
I guess it isn’t just Dell laptops then!
We have tried pretty much everything
Clearing Caches
Running the repair
Reinstalling the game
Checking ports are opened
Updating drivers
Disabling firewalls
No luck! If you can think of something we have missed, please let me know
Also Anet, get your act together.
So as an update it actually blue screened me this time. New and interesting features indeed. Before I lay to much blame I’m double checking all my hardware and software to make sure the issue isn’t on my end. Will update with results post check.
I’ve had months with no crashes and then suddenly crashes. It’s more than likely the game breaking, and having updates every 2 weeks, that doesn’t help keep things stable.
can you create a dxdiag log file and post it here to see more informations about your pc ?
you can upload a file by using the [More Posting & Formatting Options …] under the post replay

also having this issue, never had problems before but now the client randomly freezes/locks up in lions arch or during the invasion event.
win 7 x64 pro
msi 7970 @ 1200×1920 high settings (also tried changing settings and it doesnt help the freezing problems)
8gb ram, 256gb ssd from which gw2 is run
all drivers are up to date and i;ve run the repair tool on the client which did not seem to repair anything and it still is freezing.
I can now safely say that since the Super Adventure Box update I cannot play at all, as it locks up as soon as I select a character.
Sounds like the same thing happens to me that is happening to Little Helix. Once I choose a character, the next screen never loads. I have to get out with task manager. Task manager just says the guild wars 2 is not responding. I’ve deleted the game and completely re-installed it. This has not helped. I am completely unable to play the game.
I have been doing nothing but crashing since the jubilee release. I can play all my other games without issue, but GW2 is a crashfest for me. I have a solid PC that is mostly Corsair components.
Win 7 64bit Pro
i7 2600k 3.4Ghz cooled by an H100
EVGA GTX 570
16G Corsair Vengence 1600Hz
Playing GW2 off an Intel SSD
Please fix your game Anet!

Can’t play more than 15 minutes without crashing. Freeze upon any teleport and have to shut the game down

if the game had problems the forums should have thousands forum posts say the same every day.
i am just a player of the game that read daily the tech forums and i can easily say that there is the minority of its player-base that has problems and most of the times these problems are player side and not anet’s side .
except this clarification , can you create a dxdiag log file and post it here to see more informations about your pc ?

Have you guys tried a memcheck since the crash ? I had the same problem and I had a damaged block of ram.
