Q:

I’m having a lag in the game which only start occurring after about 2 minutes of playing because prior to that the game works perfectly. The lag itself feels like the game goes to slow motion for a second, the fine again and back to slow mo.
First of all I thought it was my connection, but then ruled it out as the ping is around 50ms, and also chcecked it on my mate’s computer, and he plays GW2 as well and it was the same both on the cable and wifi.
My second guess was the hard drive. So I borrowed a pretty fast hdd from the same person, did a clean install and started playing. After 4 minutes or so it started laggin again.
Third thought was my Graphics card. So what I did was put it in my friend’s computer, and the game turned out to be running smooth on his gear even with my graphics card.
My Cpu readings are fine, doesn’t put much strain on it at all. But I tried to disable 2 of 4 cores available but it resulted in nothing.
Don’t even have to mention that tried the lowest graphics settings and it lags in the same way as on the auto detect.
All other mmorpgs and other games are running fine, even if a little choppy. But this is different lag, it’s like it’s slowing down every second. Even when standing still the animations are doing that regular slow downs which is annoying.
I’ve searched all the forums but haven’t found anything similar that’s why I’m opening a new topic.

my rig:
amd phenom 2 945
radeon hd 5670
patriot 4gb 1333mhz
samsung hdd 7200rpm 320gb
cable connection Virgin 50mbit, and my friend’s was 100mbit
not OC’ed

thanks for any replies

What operating system are you using? Several people with Windows 8 have reported issues with laggy input and other oddness.

Thanks for your reply,

I’m running now clean install of Windows 7, with no change.

Just to describe the problem better, while I run around the frame rate is very stable, there is no fps decrease around 42 fps – but the lag is still present.
In windowed mode, I checked for any irregular activity with cpu, graphics and the hdd, but it’s all normal.

Right, I’ve solved my problem now but could someone make it visible on the thread?

Checking just about everything I could to resolve the problem, I failed to check the temperature of my components. I assumed that if the fan doesn’t speed up noticeably the temperature should be normal. HOW WRONG WAS I?!

Turns out my cpu was running at 65 c when idling and going into 80 c when playing the game! The reason why it wouldn’t lag initially was that it was getting wormer and wormer but only after a certain temperature I could experience the decrease in performance.

I had to clean the heatsink (there was a lot of dust in there), and reapplied thermal paste.

Even though I didn’t get much help here, I hope someone can benefit from this discovery as well. Don’t be fooled by quiet fans – check the temperature!

I am getting lag, Windows 8, I have an H100 liquid cooler for my i7 3770 and it is working fine (cooler that is) and I still have the same issue, starts off perfect for about 3 minutes, then slide-show city. I was logging in to just do my dailies and maybe the wvw jump puzzles but now I can’t even do that.
