Guild Wars 2

Hi,

When I start up Guild Wars 2 on my Windows 8 64-bit machine, the game seems to do all of the necessary downloading/updating and launches fine. The game window opens to a white background and immediately disappears to what I can only assume, is the taskbar. When you hover the mouse over the task bar icon you can see that the character select screen is running and you can hear the game music. Note, I play the game in windowed mode and have tried to run the game with the correct command line argument to run it full screen but there is no change.

I’m not sure if this is a common problem but I haven’t been able to find a cure. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and uninstalling and reinstalling/updated my video card drivers to no avail. I run a Radeon HD 5830 graphics card. Please let me know what other information I need to provide to help you find out the cause.

Try selecting the game in the task bar, so it is the active process, and hit the Windows Key and the Up Arrow. If that doesn’t fix it, try hitting the Windows Key with the Left or Right Arrows.

The up arrow action will make sure the game isn’t minimalized for some reason, the left or right actions will tell the game to move to another monitor it may be mistakingly trying to render on.

How to move an OFFSCREEN Window:

Hover your mouse over the application in the taskbar. Wait till preview appears. Hover over the preview. RIGHT click. Choose “MOVE”. Let go of your mouse. Press the arrows (on your keyboard) to move the window where you wanna have it. DONE!

I will try both of these suggestions when I get back to my computer tomorrow afternoon. I’ll also let you know how it goes, thanks for the suggestions.

It’s probably another program interfering with GW2. Use task manager to disable ALL unneeded programs that are running at start up (then reboot) and try Guild Wars 2 again.

It worked! I can’t believe how I missed trying that. I use the Windows Key + Arrow keys all the time when I’ve got multiple programs open, not sure how I couldn’t put two and two together.
