Guild Wars 2

Since some time my game (and computer) crashes randomly. First I thought it was temperature issue, but now it crashes even when the PC is not warmed. And these crashes only happen with GW2.

I’m playing and randomly (most of the times is when I do some kind of action (like talk to a NPC, open Black Lion Company, etc)) the sound freezees (making weird sounds) and my screen goes to something like the screenshot I attached for ~3 seconds (it’s not a screenshot, it’s made with paint to show the idea (can’t take screenshot while my PC is crashing….)).

I checked my Documents/GuildWars2 folder for log files. Strange, it only contains the folder “Screens” with my screenshots. No Local.dat, no log files.
I put -log into my shortcut to gw2.exe. Still no logfile anywhere
I just checked my NVIDIA settings as the topic “Black screen in NVIDA issue” says. Everything is OK.

What happened with the log files? and the Local.dat? Maybe ArenaNet hide them somewhere else?

Anyone has any idea how to fix that? Yeah, having the log files would help, but I really don’t know where to find them, or where to make them appear…

Also, I tried with the option -umbra gpu, hoping that releasing a bit the gpu would fix it. It just crashes more often. I just checked and my drivers are also updated.

I just submited a support ticket. If there’s any fix I will post it here.

A lot of players got a similar issue but the support didn’t answer any of my questions.

So you guys get a reboot? For me it is only the weird blackscreen with a 3 second sound loop. After that there is just “no signal” and I need to reset the pc.

I’m having the same problem. I can’t do any dungeons without the fear of disconnecting midway through it. Please fix soon.

Inb4 people commenting “This sounds like a heating or power supply issue”

Its purely the game, have had this issue since September.

Is there a solution yet? I am having this black screen too but I can see the in-game looking mouse pointer.

Cant Alt-Tab too but I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and open Task Manager. GW2 is showing “Not Responding” in the Task Manager everytime this happens.

I can load other games like BF3, BO2, POE, D3 but not this game.

I think I got it fixed. Never can be sure, but I played for some time and it didn’t crash again.

It was my GPU driver was outdated. And I thought it was updated b/c of Microsof’ts “Device Manager – Check for driver updates”. Yeah, great stuff… my GPU driver was from 2010 (and the tech guy told that there’re updates every 5-6 months…).

In my case, i have a NVIDIA GPU, I went here http://www.geforce.com/drivers, clicked “Auto-Detect Your GPU” and just install the update that they say.

I’ve been playing for 2 days after updating and I didn’t have any crash yet.

hello. when I start to install the game it starts but after a few seconds it closes himself…
What can I do?

I have a similar issue. I’m a bit skeptical on this being the solution for me as everything else works fine, but my processor is a 125w processor, and my motherboard supports up to 95w only. As I said everything else works fine, even Guild Wars 2 when it first came out, but it does no longer. I’ve ordered a new motherboard in the hopes of fixing it. The error in the event viewer is a Northbridge Error and that is the Motherboard

Is anything specific happening when you crash? Like is there a certain class present at the time of your crash doing something.

And if that works, its absurd you have to switch computer parts just to play a single game.

I get exactly this! thought it was my processor getting older. Its not the graphics card as thats new and not even cranked up to max.

My GW2 is getting black screen sometimes, but it turns back after some seconds with some visual bugs. I do alt+tab out and alt+tab back, no visual bug.

But there are times when the game just crashes. Started yesterday, after the Windows 8.1 upgrade. Reinstalled the game, but it keeps happening. Checked NVIDIA Black Screen topic, everything ok. My driver is up to date too. Don’t know what to do, the season starts now and I’m crashing all the time. Can’t find another complains about Windows 8.1 with games…

I solved it for 50% of the content. I downclocked my GTX295 installed an old driver and now I can play fractals and the new content without a crash. BUT here come the strange things: There is a possibility to reproduce the freeze/sound loop/restart for me. I need to speak to special vendors or do special actions and it will crash 100%

-> Karma guy southeast in Malchor’s leap
-> Arah Dungeon Vendor
-> speaking to a lot of other vendors
-> run to Tequatl from the quaggan waypoint
-> playing my charr engi for 5 minutes
-> reaching the gw2 charactermenu (I need to klick the character slots as fast as possible, so the models aren’t there)

Next month I will try a new gpu. Hope it will fix this strange issue. I tried everything!!! -.-’

i have the balckscreen just 3-4 mins after i joined the game or character creation,when i do ctrl/alt/delete is says gw2 i not responding… anyone have solution to this issue ?
