Game client not launching due to another copy running(none is running)

Hi there, just downloaded the game and went to play… actually worked fine created my character got in game ran fine so forth… since I logged out that time the game client wont even launch… most of the time nothing at all happens occasionally it tells me its because another copy is running. The game will show up in my processes but not as an application.. I have tried the client repair, my drivers are updated and I am running as administrator… if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated this is fairly frustrating tech support has not got back to me.

So you see the launcher and the game in your process list. I assume you end tasked them and then tried again?

yes, iv done that each time iv tried switching the command line now as well to both image and repair neither worked, tried reinstalling as well… the main reason i find this so weird is because the first time after the download it let me into the game and all

Have you tried deleting local.dat file from Documents/Guild Wars 2 just to see if it changes anything? (note that you’ll lose any changes you might’ve made in the game setttings)

Are you running any firewall/antivirus software?

Yea I am but I tried disabling it to see if it would start…, and gotta be honest not sure what that is havent actually been able to play more than a few minutes not familiar…
On another note how long does it take them to respond to tickets its been more than 8 hours how long is it going to take to get a second response after they send me something generic…

I am also having this problem. I got a new computer and the game ran once no problem. Next day it just wont launch I only get a gw2.exe process. Their tech support is answering once every 24hrs and is usually only asking for another log, which is fairly typical for a MMO.
I have completely uninstalled the game and downloaded the installer again and get the same thing.
However I have had some success with running the compatibility wizard on the installer (just right click the .exe and select “troubleshoot compatibility”), it selected xpsp2 and the installer launched \o/.
The game should be ready when I get back from work so fingers crossed the same solution will work for the actual client.

Getting a similar problems since 3 days (after the latest patch I believe) the game launcher stops responding after clicking play. It will sometimes work though, usually after restarting the computer though this was yesterday. Today i’ve tried to endlessly get to the character screen without avail.
Nothing changed on my computer and i’ve played without issue since headstart. Any ideas?

Hi Gmole,
It works, I had to run the compatibility wizard on the new Gw2.exe, but that was to be expected.
Give it a try, it can’t make things any worse
If the “troubleshoot compatibility” thing alone doesn’t work for you, pm me with your email and I will send you everything I done to hopefully recreate the solution.
