Game crash: Random black screen.
Hmmmm, I’m going to try and avoid blaming the latest patch here. I’m going to start by guessing its an over heating issue. Can you check the temperatures you’re getting and report them back. It will also help if you list your computer specifications.
As for determining the temperature of your CPU/GPU you can use HWMonitor which can be downloaded here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe

I have a i5 750 2.6ghz. Temperature during the crash is 60C. which is normal. My other graphic intensive games have no problem at all.
I just got another black screen crashed after 2 hours of gw2.
My components are:
Gigabyte p55a-ud3
4 gig ram
ATI Radeon 5770
Windows 7 (all current updates)
Do I understand you correctly and that both your CPU and GPU are at 60C when the crash happens? If so, what graphics driver are you running? I recommend getting the latest and greatest at:

Hello
I’d like to report the same issue, which has only started since the last major game update…. black screen with mouse visible and sound correct in the background.
This seems only to occur in WvW and FOTM…
Also I have already followed the pinned advice, and my filtering is set to program controlled.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
Please see the log attached.

Hi My Attack Will Kill,
I’d start with a router bypass so we can rule that out right away. If that doesn’t work, I’d follow with Msconfig to rule out potentially conflicting apps.
Hope this helps!

Having the same issue myself recently. I have no router to “bypass”, so that’s a nonissue. Mind you it’s on an nVidia GTX 560 with driver 9.18.13.1422 (I’m not using the newer 320.49 because I’ve had issues with that one across all my games on my system and it was crashing far too much).
This issue of blank, black screen is only happening in GW2, not happening in games like Firefall, which I can play hours on end. It’s a recent issue that started 2-3 weeks ago. This error only seems to happen during loading screens. That’s the correlation that I’ve discovered so far, though not sure what it is about. I can still hear music in the game, still hear combat like everything is happening. What’s odd is that just before the blank, black screen is a “disconnected from server” error code that pops up, but it’s not really a disconnection from the server (otherwise would be booted to login screen and/or not hear anything within the game actually going on).
I would like an answer to this rather soon. If there’s a repair to the game’s client or something, maybe? It’s really bothersome when I’m about 10ft from the 1st boss in W1-Z1 S.A.B. Tribulation mode, die, loadscreen starts to go and get that bug/error. That is irritating.
Edit: Did the Tool thingy (attached to here)

I’d like to report this crash in as well. Problems started after the Crafting lvl 500 update. But my game hangs up, pops up the ‘send error report’ message and goes into repairmode the next time I start GW2.exe
2 minutes in or 2 hours doesn’t matter.
It does seem to occur mostly around loadingscreens to other maps or dungeoninstances or WvW. Characters, settings, don’t seem to matter.
As far as I can tell I have no conflicting software with GW2, all drivers are up-to-date, my hardware is meeting the requirements. I even tested my hardware for damaged parts as these crashes occured sudden and with great frequency.

well bypassing my router isn’t an option cause the router is needed for my ISP and i can’t find any programs conflicting with gw2 all my other games like bf3 /medal of honor works perfect and i played gw2 when beta came out and everything was fine could play for hours nothing changed on my end
Bumping this to front page to get more attention on this issue (since no reply in 3 days). The bug is very irritating and starting to bug me so very much (hence the name “bug”?). But, I can’t play the game with it doing this.
Edit: Oh, and this…
MattChernickyThis is actually a fairly common issue that players have been experiencing due to certain configurations in the Nvidia Control Panel. We suggest adjusting your Anti-Aliasing settings in the Nvidia Control Panel. Please try the steps below to make these changes:
1. Right click on the desktop.
2. Select NVIDIA control panel.
3. Select Manage 3D Settings.
4. Verify the “Antialiasing – Mode” is set to Application-controlled / or click Restore.
5. Click OK.Once completed, please try launching Guild Wars 2 again.
Did that, it didn’t work either.
Since the black screen is associated with a “disconnected from server” issue, I’m going to try something I dug up related to Port Forwarding on this game. It’ll be ports 80, 443, 6600, and 6112. Hopefully that’ll resolve the issue, as they’re said to be solutions related to an error with Netgear Routers and Modems (which my ISP uses exclusively).

so after i tried alot of things
- nvidia thing
-port forward
-removing switch
-messing with my router
- tried a new cable
-turned up the fans to get pc colder
-etc…
i think i finally found a thing that fixed it for me
i did a complete router/switch reset so i put everything back to default
and i deactivated upnp device host service and / SSDP discovery on my computer and also deactivated upnp on my router
this seems to work.
atm i have been playing for 2 days without any black screen issue and i only got 1 disconnect.
the upnp thing was actually something battlefield 3 also suggested as a fix for their disconnecting so i went with that
