Game crashes on all settings but low
I replaced one fan and installed another and things seem to be more stable. Is it possible a heating issue would have caused this?
edit: Nevermind. It sort of takes it a bit longer, but the same error happens.

Another crash. The reports are never the same it seems.

Unfortunately that last error was after a fresh install. The graphics all went green and purple and then the crash happened when I tried to screenshot it. I ran the repair tool as you suggested, but it just crashed again I’m afraid. Once again, different errors.
At this point I can only guess maybe the card is overheating or maybe my board isn’t reading things right? The only other bit of info I can find is because I have a 32-bit system it’s not able to access enough memory somehow. Another user with windows 8 or 8.1 had that be the case. Thoughts?

Ive been having the exact same errors dude. I thought it was my gpu at first, tried old drivers nope, thought it was corrupted gw2, nope full repaired so i fresh installed nope still the same thing. The only thing i can possible see what it might be is an overclocked Cpu for some kittened reason. Do you oc?
Nope. I don’t overclock or anything. The crashes appear to be fairly random, with the only constant being I can see other peoples armor. I’ve actually walked around Lions Arch on higher settings for about 10 minutes or so hoping to trigger it and nothing. The moment I want to WP down to Cursed Shore? Crash when the loading screen happens.
Even the 32-bit explanation doesn’t seem too likely. A couple months ago everything worked great on the highest settings. I had to RMA my motherboard and GPU for other reasons, but I’m using the same parts now. The only thing that has really changed is I’m using Windows 8.1 up from windows 8.
Then i dunno man, its seriously the same issues as i get even the white box !$$! Nothing fixes it, its clearly Anet’s end that’s kittened and they need to fix it but because its such a small amount of people they wont give a fk.

Well what I can say for certain is that I do not have this issue on my laptop, which is using Windows 7 64-bit and much worse hardware. At this point I’m thinking either my motherboard is at fault or Windows 8.1 is at fault since I have seen plenty of complaints about it. That would still fall squarely on Anet and their compatibility with the OS, but I’m just trying to narrow down the issues.

So here’s my findings thus far.
It’s unlikely to be the RAM or drivers. I checked a couple different sticks of RAM and I still get the same issue. Tests on the RAM didn’t turn up any problems either. Drivers are all up to date.
GPU might be an issue. I noticed sometimes the graphics would turn green and purple right before crashing. This doesn’t happen all the time, however. Somewhat related, Skyrim flat out refuses to let me in the game. It could still be the GPU, but it’s only done the glitch on GW2. Terraria and Path of Exile still play perfectly fine, so it seems unlikely.
My motherboard does occasionally stop playing sound and has been a major source of issues since I built my computer 4 months ago. All drivers here are up to date, so it seems valid it may be the culprit.
I have read about memory issues and windows 8.1. May very well just be that. I plan to swap in a different motherboard and install my windows 7 64-bit tomorrow to verify.
32-bit Windows can only use 2 GB of memory per application, so the more memory the application needs due to higher settings, the higher the risk of a crash.
64-bit Windows can at least use 4 GB with 32-bit programs if they are compiled for that, and GW2 is.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I’ll know more about it later today. Doesn’t change the fact I was able to play the game two months ago without any issue using a 32-bit windows system. Skyrim is crashing more frequently as well.
Wanted to give a quick and final update. Didn’t need a new board or anything. I installed windows 7 64-bit and everything now runs smoothly.
The problem is caused by 32 bit systems where the 2 gig memory switch (software switch) is turned off. Turning it on will give you max 3 gig which is mostly enough for gw2. See here how it works: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9583842&linkID=9240617

The link points to "Page not found’ for me.
What Albadaran is pointing to is the so called 3GB Switch:
To enable the 3GB switch on a 32bit system:
1) Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu
2) Click Run as Administrator
3) At the command prompt, enter:
bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
4) Restart the computer
To disable the 3GB switch:
1) Right-click on the Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu
2) Click Run as Administrator.
3) At the command prompt, enter:
bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa
4) Restart the computer
PS: Thought I’d fix this post so it may help others.
