I have question regarding the in-game chat. When I use it my game suddenly freezes. Sometimes I can type multiple sentences in a row before it crashes, but sometimes it freezes when typing the first word. It seems pretty random and I’ve read that more people have this problem. However, there’s no answer yet.

I’ve got only one keyboard language (US international) and my computer log says:

Are you guys aware of this really annoying bug? Or is it my computer that’s playing tricks on me? Please help!

Can you try updating your driver? http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/47781
When your run setup click custom installation → Perform Clean install.

Is your UAC turned off? else if not right click on gw2 shortcut then run as admin.

I have the exact same problem and I updated my driver aswell. But it’s still freezing.

Got the same problem here.
Totally random but most of the time it happens when I want to switch between chat channels (so when i typ /map or /party).
My screen freezes but the sound keeps on playing. I’ve to CTRL + ALT + DEL to stop GW2. After that I can restart GW2 and start playing again.

Please help with this issue, The most annoying thing about it is that you get kicked out of WvWvW and have to start over in the queue!

If it can’t be fixed in a short time, My suggestion is a “saved slot” for WvWvW when you aren’t logged off correctly, that would be great :P.

DaanvM this is exactly what happens. Indeed it seems to happen more often when switching channels. Game freezes but sound continues. And killing the task and restarting is not so bad when you’re playing PvE. But in a Dungeon or in WvW it ruins the gaming experience. I’ve now had this problem 2 or 3 times in a dungeon and not only you, but also your party is affected by this.

Anyone has an answer to this question yet ?

Have you tried setting your region in the US? ( Control Panel → Regions)

I have the same problem; sometimes when using chat, the screen just freezes while sound goes on, need to ctrl+alt+del and close the game process. I thought I was the only one ;_;
All drivers etc etc are most certainly up to date.

@Alpha Dragon, yes I have tried that. Still happens. Please fix this, it is getting really frustrating!

Hi! I have the same prob. When i try to write something in the chat the game freezes.

Switch off US International, or any keyboard layouts with dead keys on. As trying to type anything with ’ will likely crash the game. Otherwise, learn to live without punctuating ’ or ` till they fix it.

So far so good, it hasn’t crashed since removing Kaspersky. But I still hope you can find a better solution, since I do want Kaspersky back on.

Nevermind, I just crashed again while using chat…

Is there any progress on tackling this problem?

I’m having the very same problem, Event Id 1002 Application Hang, it happens randomly I will get a static noise sound my game will freeze I have to Ctrl alt delete out and actually reboot. I have uninstalled, updated graphics drivers, re installed the client, I have tried almost everything, and Although this seems to be affecting a lot of people, there are very few forums. Can Arena Net please look into a fix for this? we love the game and just want to be able to play it:(

Also I’ve tried antivirus, administrative mode, pretty much everything I can find and it still happens and I don’t know what to do. I"m unable to really enjoy the bigger areas of this game because its completely unreliable

No one likes listening apparently, judging by the fact that you’re typing "I"m unable to really enjoy", your ’ button types out ‘’ instead of just plain ’, which would mean that you’re probably not on a US keyboard layout. US – International or US – Whatever doesn’t count. Switch your keyboard to US or give up using your ’ or ` keys.

That’s not working Sintri, I have switched my keyboard to US but this problem still occurs.

Hey everyone, I see the last post in this thread was five months ago, but it doesn’t seem like an answer has been given here, right now I’m having exactly the same problem:

When trying to switch chat channels, the game freezes, I’m still able to move my (custom) cursor and the game sound continues, the game just completely freezes. You can’t alt-tab while this happens so I have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and start task manager to get out of the game. After this I can restart the game and continue without problems. Anyone knows a solution to this?

I started encountering this exact same issue, I do sometimes accidentally press ctrl+shift or alt+shift so it changes language, press again to fix, but it seems game hangs the moment I press enter when done typing. It is a curious bug indeed and it only started for me about 2 weeks ago.

Well i had this for about a month now. It seems its less frequent now but it still happens somtimes. Games only freezes when changing, typing at chat.

Win 7 and Win 8 both have same experience. I run alt keyboard layouts (ENG DV and ENG US).

Running fresh install of Win 8. Only apps installed – Zone Alarm, Skype, Chrome, Firefox.

Fixed for me with:

Click “Show / Hide Chat Panel” – Turns solid instead of transparent.
Chat Options (the little gear):
Select Small Font from dropdown

Any time I used the chat I make sure that the chat window is visible (not transparent). But later tested with transparency and it seemed ok for me.

I have no idea which of the things actually made the difference. I know that it doesn’t lock up for me anymore. Whereas before I would lock up every time i tried chatting.
