Game crashing Nvidia card
Using beta drivers? That’s what I am using it helped me a lot a bit back when I was having problems with the game.
I have the same GPU (a GTX 470) and the same problem. The only way i can run GW2 for longer than half an hour without crashing (and, mind you, it WILL at some point) my drivers is:
- by deactivating frame limiting (its great for keeping my gpu cool, but also for crashing my drivers)
- downthrottling my GPU (its not overclocked, now its even underclocked)
- increasing voltage via afterburner
- shutting off steam
- never playing with shaders on high
So, yeah. It sucks. My GPU never gets above 90-95°C while gaming (and only under great stress), so i dont feel like that overheating is the problem. And yes, i tried setting antialiasing to application controlled, im using the beta driver et cetera, all to no avail. Its.. frustrating.
And uhm i already checked my RAM with memtest for roughly 5 hours, no errors.

I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record here, but have you checked your temperatures to make sure nothing is overheating? Both CPU and GPU are pushed hard in this game and it’s taking a lot of players by surprise.
Also regarding the GTX 470 specifically, these cards overheat really easily, because the chip runs extremely hot and they seem to have lousy automatic fan control – that means its vitally important to keep an eye on these cards, especially while gaming.
Even if your card is not actually reaching the point of overheating try increasing the fanspeed with a tool like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision and see if you still get crashes when you keep the temperature at a lower level. I say this because some other players were experiencing crashing issues (either the GPU driver or the entire system) when their card reached a certain temperature level, even though that temperature didn’t seem to be critically high, yet keeping the temperature lowered prevented any further crashes. It’s possible in such cases it’s the VRAM overheating instead of the chip itself, which would explain why increased cooling on the card prevents the problem.
Same problem. I am running two gtx 480 in SLI. If I run only one gpu I’m fine. Two? Crash.
I know that many players have issues with overheating, however, its not the case in my rig. Afterburner is installed, fan is set to max, temperature is alright. Driver still crashes.
I have also been having these problems and it really is getting ridiculous.
I’m using a 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M Graphics Card, it is not over heating whatsoever, my CPU is not been overworking at all, and nor is the memory. I’m having to run the game on the lowest settings just so that I can play for five minutes without having to do a hard shutdown and a reboot. Even so the game might crash lightly, but majority of the time I’m having to do a hard shutdown. Really not liking this.
Okay, so i could play for 2 Days straight without a crash, 10 hours of gametime in total. What worked for me was this: i downclocked my gpu by roughly 30 mhz. Kinda weird, but its not affecting my gpu’s abilities in a noticable way, so im fine for now.
