Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. I’m tired of your game crashing my graphics card. I have an Nvida Gforce gtx 470. I know it’s not the most recent of graphics card out there, but I have absolutely zero problems playing any other game out there and can play on high settings for most mmo games. Hell, I can use my computer to render scenes in maya with all sorts of crazy stuff going on. So why does my graphics card crash while standing near a broker doing absolutely nothing and not having anyone casting any crazy spells? Obviously, something is wrong here, and it is NOT client side.

I would love to help you out by posting my crash reports. I can’t. The game entirely goes down, taking my computer with it and causing me to have to do a hard reboot. I’m starting to get really worried about the kind of damage that this is causing my computer with all the constant reboots. The most I can tell you is what I have tried.

I tried turning down the graphics settings all the way. Didn’t work. I tried checking the settings that you specified in the sticky post about setting anti-aliasing mode. They were already set to that, and changing back to default did nothing either. My graphics card driver is up to date. I tried limiting the frames to 30 fps. Whatever the issue is, I don’t think it is client side, it has to be something in the coding itself.

As I said before, it happens at random times. Sometimes I’m smack-dab in the middle of an event with 15 other players dropping a rainbow apocalypse of spells and effects into my face. Other times, I’m just chilling near a broker, one player runs up, and everything locks up. I remember once it was a hunter, but I don’t know if each time was caused by that or not. Either way, it happens at random, sometimes I can play an hour or two without incident, sometimes it occurs within five minutes of logging in. This is everything that I know.

I’m sorry if I came across as a jerk through this post, but I’m just really frustrated right now. I like your game, I would just like it more if I could play it without crashing so often. Really kills the mood, y’know?

Using beta drivers? That’s what I am using it helped me a lot a bit back when I was having problems with the game.

I have the same GPU (a GTX 470) and the same problem. The only way i can run GW2 for longer than half an hour without crashing (and, mind you, it WILL at some point) my drivers is:
- by deactivating frame limiting (its great for keeping my gpu cool, but also for crashing my drivers)
- downthrottling my GPU (its not overclocked, now its even underclocked)
- increasing voltage via afterburner
- shutting off steam
- never playing with shaders on high

So, yeah. It sucks. My GPU never gets above 90-95°C while gaming (and only under great stress), so i dont feel like that overheating is the problem. And yes, i tried setting antialiasing to application controlled, im using the beta driver et cetera, all to no avail. Its.. frustrating.

And uhm i already checked my RAM with memtest for roughly 5 hours, no errors.

I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record here, but have you checked your temperatures to make sure nothing is overheating? Both CPU and GPU are pushed hard in this game and it’s taking a lot of players by surprise.

Also regarding the GTX 470 specifically, these cards overheat really easily, because the chip runs extremely hot and they seem to have lousy automatic fan control – that means its vitally important to keep an eye on these cards, especially while gaming.

Even if your card is not actually reaching the point of overheating try increasing the fanspeed with a tool like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision and see if you still get crashes when you keep the temperature at a lower level. I say this because some other players were experiencing crashing issues (either the GPU driver or the entire system) when their card reached a certain temperature level, even though that temperature didn’t seem to be critically high, yet keeping the temperature lowered prevented any further crashes. It’s possible in such cases it’s the VRAM overheating instead of the chip itself, which would explain why increased cooling on the card prevents the problem.

Same problem. I am running two gtx 480 in SLI. If I run only one gpu I’m fine. Two? Crash.

I know that many players have issues with overheating, however, its not the case in my rig. Afterburner is installed, fan is set to max, temperature is alright. Driver still crashes.

I have also been having these problems and it really is getting ridiculous.
I’m using a 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M Graphics Card, it is not over heating whatsoever, my CPU is not been overworking at all, and nor is the memory. I’m having to run the game on the lowest settings just so that I can play for five minutes without having to do a hard shutdown and a reboot. Even so the game might crash lightly, but majority of the time I’m having to do a hard shutdown. Really not liking this.

Okay, so i could play for 2 Days straight without a crash, 10 hours of gametime in total. What worked for me was this: i downclocked my gpu by roughly 30 mhz. Kinda weird, but its not affecting my gpu’s abilities in a noticable way, so im fine for now.
