Let’s start simple. What sort of system specs are you working with? Specifically, what kind of processor, graphics card, operating system, and RAM are you using?

And what troubleshooting steps have you tried already? Unfortunately system freezing can mean a number of different things, so we’ll need to narrow down any potential variables before we can nail down the root cause.

I’ve had the same problem since the Entanglement patch dropped: not a single problem before, unplayable after. I’ve tried updating drivers, hard drive scan, repair mode, deleting local.dat, a full re-install, dropping the graphics settings…nothing has helped. The screen will freeze and the system will become completely unresponsive, requiring a hard reset.

Window 7 64-bit
ATI Radeon HD 6850
8GB RAM
Intel Core i5-3570 3.4 GHz

My game is freezing as well. It did it yesterday and today. It ran perfectly fine before and I have not changed anything with my computer.

Can you add your system specs here as well? If nothing else, maybe a pattern will show up.

Same thing happened to me this morning.
I was in the game, everything was ok, then I tried to use a waypoint and after 30 seconds of the map loading screen the game froze.
After that I was able to log into the game client, I could choose the character but couldnt get past the loading screen. Got the fatal error 1117. Tried a lot of things, nothing worked. Now Im downloading the game again.

I’m having the same problem, this never happened before, I’ve tried rolling back graphics drivers, it’s already a clean install of Windows 7, I’ve deleted that dat file thing, I’ve tried running on absolute lowest graphics etc etc etc, nothing has fixed this. The ONLY thing I can do to get out of it, once it’s frozen, is to hard reset…
One thing I noticed, is that when it happens, the sound sometimes crackles a little, I sometimes have Spotify running behind GW2 and all sound will stop when it freezes. I’m pretty sure even some of the fans in my machine slow down, for some reason.

My wife’s computer is practically identical (same video card, different manufacturer) and doesn’t get this issue at all…

My specs are:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz (4 CPU’s), ~3.5GHz
Memory: 16GB RAM
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760

On whim last night, I reinstalled Windows 7; downloaded the latest MoBo drivers, installed the ATI beta driver, etc. Today, instead of the system freezing completely, the whole system shut down, then restarted. I ran the next session with Core Temp and GPU-V going; GPU temp never went above 70C, and the processor cores would max out around 65C, but after a couple events (which is longer thkittenual), the whole system shut down again.

Honestly, this FEELS like a hardware issue (PSU going out?)…but the timing of the issues starting immediately after the Entanglement patch is strange.

This is absolutely an issue with the game since multiple people have been having the same issue since the patch. I hope they fix it soon before people actually start buying new components thinking that something in their PC is faulty..

I re-downloaded the game and that hasn’t fixed the issue. I’m thinking it’s something to do with my video card but I’ve got the latest drivers, I’ve tried rolling them back, it’s brand new yet the same problem, every time. Nothing seems to trigger it that I can see, it just happens randomly.

Interesting point, it also happened to me once when I was copying GW2 to my SSD. The game wasn’t running at the time but I’ve also had it happen when the game is minimised.
This is getting to be very depressing…

Hi knalpiraat,

Without a crash log it can be difficult to say what could be causing the issue, though looking at your system specs I would likely say this is an “Out of Memory” issue due to having a 32-bit operating system with more RAM than your operating system can handle. I’d advise starting with tweaking some of your graphics options down, or upgrading to a 64-bit operating system.
