Game won't start
when you say it won’t start, can you open the launcher, and not the main game application, or will not even the launcher open?
If you can open the launcher but not the game, and have recently updated to the creators windows 10 update, there is a current issue with overlay programs, particularly MSI afterburner, many overlay programs are not letting GW2 run, so you can either update them and see if that fixes it, or disable them for GW2

i found the “problem”. its like the guy over there descibred. if u close MSI, it runs normally. if u open it again, the game will crash. wich is kinda weird tough. tried several other games, only happened with gw2. hope they fixed it either on a windows update soon or gw update.

Most likely the MSI application is what needs fixing; I understand it puts FPS and other performance graphs into the rendering pipeline as an overlay, and I’m guessing that some change in Windows — either security related, or just randomness — means whatever technique they used to inject their code into third party code isn’t working in the latest update.
I had this problem as well. I click Play and the game crashes. Disabled MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner and now the game runs. MSI and Riva also caused another program to crash upon loading, as well.

Just recieved a windows update and I had to turn off Riva Tuner to get my game client to work.

I had the same problem but it was related to the Game DVR function of Windows 10. I tried killing off a bunch of different programs (antivirus, various other things) to no avail. Finally, I did the following which seemed to work:
- Start Menu > Settings > Gaming
- Game Bar: Turned off Record Game Clips, unchecked Show Game Bar when I play full screen games Microsoft has verified
- Game DVR: Turned off Background Recording
- Game Mode: Turned off Game Mode
BTW, this isn’t an “official” support response. This is just what worked for me once I got the Windows 10 Creator’s Update and GW2 kept failing to launch.

While I’m certain this accurately represents your belief, it is not productive, or helpful for the original poster who is extremely unlikely to change to an older Windows version — especially as this may cost them a non-trivial amount of money to purchase an appropriate license, if one is even available.
It is also unhelpful in the sense that Windows 10 does work fine for many people playing GW2, and cannot be attributed as the sole cause of problems — especially as the vast majority of the issues seem to trigger from third party software such as FPS and performance monitoring tools, DPS meters, and screen recording/broadcasting tools.
