Hey all,

Right now I just have an Acer Apire One laptop that I’ve been using for GW. Clearly, it can’t even imagine running GW2. I’ve been shopping around online for something within my budget but good enough for other games, will components I can upgrade at a later date. I have this setup in mind, it beats the min specs and the little research I’ve done says it should work fine for medium/high settings, but wanted to see if it met Forums-Standards lol…

AMD FX-8120
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 2GB
4 X 2GB RAM
Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

should work, right?

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Post-your-FPS-System-spec-here/first#post558553 Look at this thread and get a feeling of what to expect with hardware.

FX-8120 will do okay, not great. GW2 is very CPU-bound. Go for the fastest CPU you can afford on this list, Intel base if possible. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html before splurging on a GPU. 640 will do okay start with medium settings, but if u want to start maxing settings 560ti and up is what you prob want. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

I don’t know if I would go with that particular AMD CPU. That is a Zambezi (Bulldozer) and they had some issues. The later Vishera (Piledriver) models are better. Just a suggestion.

What Kirito and Rabbid said is accurate.

GPU wise if your going nvidia you want a X50ti or above.
So a 460, 560ti, 650ti, 660, 660ti etc. They should all manage medium + high settings some will even do all high ..like the 560ti and 660ti.

CPU wise i always sugest people go 2ng Gen i5 K series at minimum with a good beginners OC..maybe 4.3ghz to 4.5ghz. 3rd Gen are slightly better per clock but a little harder to OC due to increased heat, thus usualy requirng better cooling.

If you’re on a strict budget here is a suggested build (i3 and Radeon 7770): http://pcpartpicker.com/p/r2LS

You will have plenty of room to upgrade the CPU and GPU in the future. The setup is not intended for overclocking. The power supply and motherboard are on the reliable side.

And if you want a WvW friendly setup that implies ample overclocking (i5 2500k and 560 Ti): http://pcpartpicker.com/p/r2KS

Note: Operating System not included.
