Getting insane lag/fps drop
Got the same problem. On darkhaven server. Yesterday perfectly fine, game running smooth all weekend. Today, me and my roommate can’t do anything. INSANE amount of lag. Moves takes 15 secs to cast(talking about insta-spells here), and keep getting disconnected to character selection screen.
Uhh…what’s up , ANet?
EDIT: And before someone suggests it, no it’s not our internet connection because every other MMO/game we’ve tested is running smooth as butter. So, the problem has to be with ANet’s servers :/

Same problem in tournaments on Seafarers Rest EU. Mornings are fine and for a few days now, i have incredible lags only in Spvp/tournaments in the evenings/nights … in game chat is okay imho …
Same problem here. This patch ended culling but made things worse and I have a high end rig. 4.2 Ghz with two AMD 6970’s should be getting over 50-70 FPS in WvW. Now I’m getting 20-40….
Davidah (Guardian) Goloith (Engineer)
Achuni (Mesmer) Doreanora (Thief)
For me WvW is unplayable too. Desolation server / Vizunah border.
I HAD the same issue a while back, it was all working fine one minute, the next it was as slow as a snail with a hang-over… i hadn’t changed anything, just one day it was fine getting 70+ fps everywhere and the next i was down to 25, less if i moved about and totally unplayable in WvW and whenever there was a big champion / boss fight going on.
BUT i fixed it! how? it’s a little odd but works… (windows 7) i went into my contol panel —> power settings and put my profile onto “high performance” i guessed the power going to the GPU card wasn’t being told to turn on by the app so to get around it, have the card always powered up fully… not sure if that’s right but it worked for me!
Having the exact same issue here now as well. I’m on Fort Aspenwood server (we’re always getting bugs like this, avoid this server) and I’ve done everything possible on my end to correct the problem and it still is there. Everything is fine and dandy until I try to use a skill then I get a 2-3 second delay where the game freezes and then about 2-3 secs later it responds again but freezes/lags again the next time I use a skill. This is making anything involving any use of skills 100% unplayable. And before tech support tries to blame my end here’s what I tried:
Restarted client-no change
Restarted PC-no change
Reset and rebooted router and cable modem-no change
Uninstalled, restarted PC, and installed fresh version of GW2-no change
Updated all drivers 1 at a time testing GW2 before and after each driver update-no change
Monitored CPU temps and load during issue-no change
Monitored RAM temps and load during issue-no change
Monitored GPU temps and load during issue-no change
Installed fresh GW2 on 100% brand new machine which just had Windows 7 installed yesterday and all driver updated-no change
Connected using my neighbors wireless-no change
Connected using my smart phones HotSpot-no change
Monitored network bandwith and traffic with WireShark-no abnormal packets found or spot before, during, or after issue was present
Had Brighthouse test my physical cables and connections-no change
And before Anet blames my ISP I’ve connected with other online games and have had 0 connection issues so it’s not my end and it’s not my ISP, especially seeing as I connected with 3 different ISP’s (Brighthouse, Comcast, and AT&T). The other games I tested that worked 100% fine were EVE, WOW, SWTOR, Diablo 3, DayZ, Borderlands 2, Dead Island, Mass Effect 3, and Assassin’s Creed 3. None of those games gave me any issues at all using the online features so I am 100% sure the issue is not on my end or my ISP’s end.
As you can clearly see I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE WITHOUT BREAKING EUA/LUA to track it down on my end and no dice so it must be on the server side. I’ve noticed all the other posts from people about this issue and I see that not a single tech/PR person has commented on the issue so I will go ahead and play something else and maybe come back to GW2 once this issue is actually addressed and fixed. All these comments here and not a single reply from Anet makes me a very sad panda.
Open you your PC case and clean the dust inside, worked for me.
I clean out the inside of my PC once a week and it was last cleaned out on this past Sunday (yesterday) so that is not the issue.
did you try the power settings thing that worked for me?
Yup, tried each different power setting to include my custom power profile and no change.
It almost sounds like skill lag, which is on their side somewhere. The game doesn’t freeze for me, it just takes forever to cast skills and you start rubberbanding slightly. This only happens to me when in WvW battles of around 50+ people. If the game is truly freezing up on your end (can’t move or do anything), then I bet its something with your setup. However, if its just taking forever to cast skills, then its probably network lag on their end, whether its terrible netcode or stressing their servers too much.

I’m in the same boat. Some days I’ll be running smoothly and then BAM, I’m hit with 5 fps in cities, 20 fps in world. The weird thing is that if I leave the game alone for about a month, then come back, everything will run smoothly for another week or two. I’m absolutely confused, and have tried everything to get it running smoothly again.
I run an Intel Core i5 with 3.2 GHz and 6 GB or RAM with Windows 7
The lag on zones is due to the spawning Chests for the SAB event on top of the spawning of the listening posts for the Living story.
Typically, GW2 only uses 800Mb – 1Gb of RAM on runtime but after April 1st when SAB went live, it’s racking up 1.5Gb – 2Gb RAM on runtime.
This issue is similar when the spawning bombs in Queensdale lags the Bandit Cave.
Now there’s 3 issues that I suspect here;
1) The quantity of the Chests in any zone requires a large amount of RAM to keep track of their location. Not only that, each Chest contains 5-6 mobs so the quantity of the Chests in any zone compounds the demand out of our RAM chip.
2) The frequency of the Chest spawn is ridiculously fast. There were Chests spawning 2-3 from one another and re-spawns within 20s-30s after being opened.
3) The loop routine in the codes is poorly written that it continues to loop without checking for status first. When this happen, it generates a compounding number of bytes in the RAM that a variable or variables just keeps increasing in size. A simple If…Then inside the loop may fix this issue.
As for unrelated cause to GW2 is my Nvidia driver. The lastest driver from Nvidia had caused a lot of issues in the past and this may also be the issue. I have to roll back my drivers numerous times due to a lot of glitches and lag in the game.
As for loading time, this is a server-side issue so no matter how much you upgrade your computer, it’s not going to help. Buying an SSD to improve GW2 should not be the case here considering that it should run efficiently with the minimum requirements.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

Hi,
I have some lag issues, especially in the evenings/at nights in HotM and SpvP/Tpvp. It is really unplayable. I have no lags in the morning or in the world of Tyria and have not lags there ever! My friends only come in the evening for tpvp and for me as a pvp player it is really annoying that playing with lags! It is not a problem by my side, my internet connection works great in other games, websites etc! I want you to solve this problem, never had these lags in this game until the last patch, i get lag issues starting every evening till the morning and chat is okay, without lag. Please, do not tell me that the problem is by my side. I know it is not. Thank you. Good night, sleep tight.
Sorry for my English.

with i7 920 you think you are supposed to get 50-70fps? Dude have you played this game? Have you seen how other people suffer from low fps with better rigs…
