Glitchy/scratch sound
That usually has something to do with your sound card, try replacing the drivers for it, or the card itself could just be on its way out.
I’ve updated all of my drivers, and this motherboard (on-board audio) is performing fine in every other game I have. The audio glitch is only evident in Guild Wars 2, and specifically happens most often at the Character Select screen.
It happens every time I open the game and hit the character select screen, and will also happen (albeit rarely) during in-game music while playing.
I’m working on a recording now so an example can be heard.
Okay, now this is really weird. If I take a recording, it comes out perfectly. Yet, listening to it live, it’s glitchy/scratchy.
Sounds like faulty sound hardware. (pun may or may not be intended.)
Try using one of those USB sound adapters that come with like a Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha or something similar to that if you have access to one. If it’s perfectly fine, the sound hardware you’re previously using is on it’s way out.
Knowing that you recorded the sound without the glitch tells me even more that it’s a hardware fault. You’re never going to record hardware faulting sounds. Software glitches on the other hand, yes.
For us to hear it you’d have to take a video recording of the machine with the mic close to your speakers.
I’m actually kinda convinced that it’s hardware problem.
So, I had thought I hooked the headset up via audio jacks, but I already had moved it over to USB device.
Headset is a Logitech G430s. After some more troubleshooting, I’ve found that it’s the Logitech Dolby Surround software enabled by running it through the 3.5 → USB device.
If I disable Dolby Surround, the music is no longer scratchy, but doesn’t sound as good once I get into the game. I guess it’s something I am stuck with.
Same thing happens to my headset but not often and I can fix it. Might just be one of the small speakers in it crapping out.
But it still does 7.1 surround sound, and sounds perfect (i.e, no scratches/glitches on Character screen) if I disable Dolby surround.
Speakers work great otherwise, on a multiude of other games, or movies, or music. It ONLY happens in GW2, so I really doubt it’s hardware.
I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Dolby software for this particular headset.
