Hi, I have a high quality gaming laptop and I am still unable to run GW2 without lag. It’s not constant but it pops up quite often. I’ve tweaked the in game settings for hours on end and can’t seem to find a solution. I don’t have an amazing internet connection but it’s ethernet and it’s quite standard. There is no reason for this kind of lag that I can find. Here are my specs in case anyone is interested:

Alienware M14X
Processor: Intel Core i7 2820QM CPU @ 2.30 GHz
Installed Memory 8.00 GB
Windows 7 64 bit operating system
Graphics Card: GeForce GT 555M

It could possibly be internet since I can run games like Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Batman Arkham City at maxed settings without any significant issues.

Help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Are we talking network/latency lag or FPS lag?

the FPS is really unstable no matter what I do, it jumps from 12 to 30 and so forth

You should read some of the other “Low FPS” threads. LOTS of people are having issues with unstable framerates. It’s not just you.

That said, the first thing to check is your computer’s Power Management settings. If its not set on “High Performance” then Windows could be throttling your CPU and GPU in order to save power, and that will kill your computer’s gaming performance.

Next, what drivers are you using? What settings do you have in the game?

Thanks for the help, my power settings were set to balanced and I increased it to “high performance.” Never would have thought of that, my graphics card driver is completely updated as far as I know, otherwise I’m not sure what you mean by “drivers.” And my settings in game are: I pretty much set everything to “high” except for shaders which I set to low, render sampling to “native” and AA to off.

I’ll let you know how performance is now with “high performance” enabled

GT 555m is about equal to a 9600GT, a midrange card from 2008
2820QM is about equal to a Q9400, also released in 2008.
Your system is not considered “new”, nor is it considered “good”. Was there a laptop in 2008 that could play Crysis? What about a laptop in 2004 that could play WoW? Why should there be a laptop in 2012 to play a 2012 game like GW2?

The numbers you get look about right for those specs.

Those numbers on Low preset? If not, that’s about right. You can’t expect gaming laptop to perform the same as desktop.
