Hello everyone. First of all, my computer specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K LGA1150, 4.0GHz, 8MB with a Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII GENE LGA1150, Intel Z97, DDR3, mATX
Memory: 8GB Kingston HyperX Red Limited Edition DDR3-1600 (2×4GB)
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 970 Gaming, 4GB GDDR5, PCI-E 3.0
Displays: AOC G2460PG 24" G-Sync TN Monitor (1920×1080144Hz) & Dell U2312HM 23" IPS Monitor (1920x108060Hz)
HDDs: IntelĀ® SSD 520 Series 240GB (OS) & Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB (Games)
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Generally, I am able to play games well but specifically GW2 is giving issues:

1. The worst issue is that I have FPS drops all the way down to 1-3 FPS. These seem to happen often but not all the time. When they do, they even happen when idle at character selection. When they happen, each drop takes just 1-2 seconds and then it climbs back up and is ok for a minute or two before happening again.

I have tried to change all the settings on NVIDIA Control Panel with no luck and I have ran the game with everything on the lowest settings in-game as well with no effect.

What I have noticed having task manager open on my other screen while testing is that when the FPS drop happens the cpu utilization drops radically as well. In addition to that, changing focus away from GW2 to, say, a web browser or task manager on my other screen makes the FPS drop stop until I return focus back to GW2.

2. Other issue seems to be that I’m unable to get my max FPS up from 63. Having VSync on or off doesn’t seem to help. Turning GSync on or off doesn’t seem to do anything either. This doesn’t bother me as much as the problem above, though.

In light of these two problems I am sad to say that the game is completely unplayable for me now. Also, one of the games that works well on my system, believe it or not, is Batman: Arkham Knight. In other words, GW2 is currently the game that I have the most issues with of all the games I have.

I used to be able to play GW2 fine. Even after HoT launch, the game was fine and playable for me in all areas. As I said, now I can’t even idle in character selection without these problems.

Make sure your GPU runs @16x, and your CPU at max speed ..
you could post a picture like this if your not sure.

Thank you for the image examples. I checked GPU-Z and noticed that my graphics card was running PCI-E 2.0 × 16 @ x16 2.0 when my motherboard is 3.0 capable. I roamed a while through UEFI, found it and changed. It seems to have worked for the FPS cap issue.

The FPS drops still occur. Here are stats from GPU-Z and CPU-Z: http://i.imgur.com/JCwFSVO.png

@OP- Try the 64bit client on Windows 7 compatibility. It’s strange, but it worked for me.

@Riftweaver- Re-seating your GPU fixes that. I had to re-seat mine twice before the x2 changed to x16.

Take it out and put it back in again. Check if the PCIE slot is dirty too, cause some times dust can get in there, and screw things up for folks.

Also make sure your GPU is in the slot next to your CPU, since that is normally
the x16 slot.

Thermal dynamics can make the connections loose and not in complete contact. This can cause the card to drop down to 8x instead of the 16x it should be running at.

Znake or anyone else worked out what the original issue is ?

I am having the exact same problems with a GTX 670 and I5-3570K
