Hello everyone,

first of all, here’s my spec:

Mboard: Asus P5KC
CPU: intel quad Q9400 @2.66GHz
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760
RAM: 8 GB
System: Windows 8.1 pro (64 bit)

My issue is the following:

I upgraded from windows 7 32bit to windows 8.1 64bit (clean install), also changed video card, motherboard and cores for better perfomances; everything runs smoothly now, smoother even compared to my previous PC… everything except Guild Wars 2.

When I try to log in the game, I can tell already something is wrong, because my character select screen shows first a black screen (with the character boxes below), and loads everything after few seconds; in game situation is even worse, fps count never goes over 16, and drops significantly under 10 if I move even slightly.

Rotating the camera itself is a pain, everything is laggy, clunky, despite the graphics being extremely good, even swapping weapons or aoe effects on the ground are slightly delayed; putting everything at minimum graphics doesn’t help either, everything is exactly as laggy as before.

Loading times as well have gone awry, from the average 10 seconds to 30 secs- 1 min (tested in the Grove); also, while in loading screen, I can tell when the game is actually loading the location, because couple of seconds prior to entering the map, the loading screen goes black for a second, then goes back to normal, then finally everything loads.

I tried everything in this topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/PC-FPS-and-Performance-based-issues

All my drivers are up to date, did a clean install TWICE (took 2 days!), reinstalled the game twice as well, both on normal HD and then on SSD (same results), even unplugged/re-plugged graphic card, unparked cores, cleaned everything, monitoring usage and temperature of everything; NVIDIA experience refuses to optimize the game for some reason, but works with all the others I have, if this is any indication of anything, and all other games I have run fine, if all better than before, and with higher settings.

The game as it is now is unplayable… at this point I’m forced to quit playing, unless someone has some advice for me

Did you plug your graphics card into the slot closest to the CPU?

It does make a difference.

Having only that one slot, was impossible to be wrong… so unfortunately that’s not the issue, apparently

Any CPU cores at 25% utilization ?

They were all unparked both through a program and registry entries manually

Install MSI afterburner (just for monitoring, no need to tinker with overclockings)
Have a look at GPU operating frequency while gaming. Perhaps your GPU is stuck in blue-ray clock rate (Video driver bug maybe).

I had that. In my case it had something to do with flash/twitch, and it went away after a reboot never to return again.

First of all, thank you for your suggestion and your time.

I installed MSI afterburner and took a look at the frequencies: while gaming they range from 30+ to 70+, with an average of kitten, so I’m guessing they’re behaving normally?

Strange thing I noticed in game, the lag is not persistent : sometimes everything seems to go smooth again and my fps get to 25 (expecially if I stay put after loading the first time), somewhat steadily… as soon as I start rotating the camera or moving around, fps drop on an average of 13-16 and never go over that, laggy animation and everything else ensues.

Still this is the only game I’m having huge problems with, I’m open to suggestion because I’m frankly desperate

I would suspect a problem moving stuff into the graphics memory. Hopefully not a faulty PCI bus, maybe faulty drivers, but if it’s just GW2 that gives issues them maybe faulty GW2 data? Try re-downloading the game?

As I said I reinstalled gw2 twice, and when I did on my SSD, I did a fresh download from scratch; I did notice that, sometimes, I do get slight lag in other games as well, expecially when there’s lots of effects/people around, but it’s barely noticeable and nothing compared to the clunky way guild wars 2 runs almost all the time… I’m so sad, new content is about and I can’t play

My issue is FPS drop below 20.. Every time i switch on my pc and start GW2, FPS bound to drop below 20 until i restarted my pc and start again, which goes back to 70-100 FPS.. Always having to restart my pc to get rid of that horrible FPS rate is annoying

EDIT : Not to mention, other games works fine..

Any more suggestion?

OP, your cpu is pretty mediocre. overclock your cpu please.
