Q:

textures tearing across the screen make GW2 unplayable in some areas—could anybody point me in the right direction?

This appears to be the known issue with AMD video cards. If this is a laptop, i’d say it was overheating.

If this is an AMD card, alt-tab out of the game, then back in. Works temporarily.

Its a desktop R9 280X 3GB ASUS MATRIX PLATINUM

Only GW2 and Counter Strike GO are affected.

Heavy load temps peak at 34C (not that hot)

I’ve tried changing settings, alt-tabbing, etc., but the problem persists : \

Thanks for the input tho : )

(any other ideas?)

Sorry to say It’s a Known problem with AMD video cards. Driver updates don’t fix it, disabling any memory overclocks don’t fix it, disabling any anti aliasing same same same.

Personally I have tried all the above. My only conclusion would be maybe graphics card clocks are too high, but I seem to remember a threat where somebody experimented with that as well.

One guy even returned his card to the store, came back with a new one, popped it in, and got the same artifacts.

Don’t feel bad though, I have this same problem was well as many other AMD users.

Alt tab fixes it though until the next time it’s triggered.

Faulty ram is usually the cause on these new R series cards, I’m on my third card which seems fine now. My suggestion would be to RMA it back to where you got it from if it does it in multiple games and get an exchange/refund/fix.

I have been having the same issue, I have been trying to talk to support about it. But after 2 weeks of trying different fixes, they said they are all out of ideas and for me to contact my ISP or a local computer specialists. I have no issues with any other games. If anyone else has any other ideas I would be up for trying them.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of people are having an issue with missing textures or blue squares replacing particle effects, foliage, etc. GW2 is the only game that does this* for me (with the very rare exception in CS:GO)

I’d RMA my card, but I’m pretty sure I’d never get a replacement : ( (It also only messes up 2 games—I don’t play very many games anyways—CompSci/Ani student)

*referring to stretching textures across the screen, not missing or corrupted files.

From your pic in the first post, it actually looks like it maybe bad ram on your GFX card, which would explain why its getting worse.

This is an old article but you will get the idea

Yep the crazy stretched textures is usually down to bad ram, like I say, I had to RMA 2 cards before I got one that worked, the new R series cards have major issues with them unfortunately. No fix for it from what I understand, you could try downloading some benchmarking programs and see if you can replicate it on them.
