The Mord Sith [MORD]
(Borderlands Stationed Commander)
So in the past week, over 9 Guild Leaders have been perma banned for “Gold Buying/Selling”. Most are restored after a lengthy petition session, but the issue is deeper than that. Why is anet allowing this to continue to happen? When a guild leader sends gold to his guild members, taken from their guild bank, it is apparently triggering an oversensitive automated system that flags him as a gold seller and auto bans him.
This sort of pull the trigger then sort it out later mentality is terrible. I don’t believe there is any way the CC or other anet employees can justify this as working as intended. It’s basically saying if you have any large amount of gold, which you worked for or earned… you can’t move it or else you will be punished immediately.
Can we get a fix for this? An apology to those involved? and some sort of word that it’s being addressed?
Petition session?
I didn’t know you could petition to get unbanned.
when it’s clearly NOT your fault, as in this case, where a guild leader takes out 60g from guild bank, to send to a guild officer to buy commander tag… and he is perma banned for doing it. then yes you can petition it and have it overturned by a real person at anet.. which takes a long time as there arent many real people that responds to the support tickets it seems.
How can you say there aren’t many real people responding to tickets?
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your feedback. The team is studying this issue .
Thanks for your understanding
Can we request 2 things while you study this?
First and most importantly, PLEASE stop banning people on thursday. You are royally screwing WvW guilds by doing it within 12 hours of shuffle. Maybe Wed or tues?
Secondly, could we possibly submit a ticket to get some sort of exemption from these bans? These things arent a permenant fix, but it will help us deal with the situation as it gets more stable.
Yesterday, I found an Abyss dye and the trading post was not working for me. My husband at the computer next to me said that he would sell it for me since the trading post was working for him. He sold it and sent the money back…16 gold and change. We shut down our game shortly after that. We logged in this morning and he has been banned for gold/selling. He is the guild leader for our guild. He has submitted a ticket. I feel terrible because he just offered to help me out since the trading post is often not working for me. Is there anything we can do to straighten out this issue? We have played GW1 for 6+ years and played all of the beta testing for GW2, and have enjoyed playing GW2 quite a bit…we have even reported gold sellers’ emails that we have gotten. Now to be accused of doing so really upsets us.
To top it off, this is our vacation time that we planned to spend playing GW2 a good part of the time. I see elsewhere in the forums that it may take as long as 24 to 48 hours to have the ticket reviewed and that doesn’t guarantee a resolution. That means that we may not be able to play for the rest of the year. Really not acceptable, especially when he did nothing wrong. Please reconsider these bans as soon as possible.
I’m not sure how Anet detects Gold/Item RMT, but I do know that one way to find out would be to track the trades of botters. However it’s not like Anet are a bunch of soothsayers. Right now I’m too afraid to trade anything with anyone, just incase. Cause I don’t even know how the other people who appealed and got unbanned for false positive RMT ban got banned in the first place.
The fact that disabling the word filter is pointless cause if you swear, you gonna get banned. That did make me laugh hard in real life. Why are these care bears so touche? It’s just a game….. Shouldn’t it only really matter when it’s aimed at somebody with intent to harm?
The naming policy. In regards to inappropriate names, that’s understandable. But as for trademark and copyright names, how does somebody know if it is or not? And what about the future? So what if “Loli Ruri” becomes a copyright name in the future? Am I going to get a 72 hour ban and a name change, cause somebody out there wanted to copyright my nickname? Maybe I should copyright it, and then when Anet forces a name change, I can fax them my copyright ownership papers LOL. Bam!
And as for real life names…… from what I remember about real life names is, every name is pretty much taken by a real person. And what’s to stop a nickname from becoming popular in real life by somebody famous? Whoops, your nickname is now bannable cause somebody now just became famous, and yesterday was not. LOL

I have a ticket opened from November 27th. and another from Dec 5th that have not been replied to or handled as of this date.

And yet there are other tickets that get answered between 30 minutes to 3 days. It’s all a luck of the draw really.
seems like Anet needs to test stuff before they put it into place… i cant complain much sense im only serving a temp. ban for 3 days but my leader and officers did nothing but help out guild members with crafting or buying commander tags

Yep. this is an issue that comes up over and over. When asked for clarification, arena net employees state to read the EULA and CoC. its vague at best. basically arenanet can ban you at any time for any reason without recourse. My name, for instance, Cover Girl. I’ve had this name for 7 years with City of Heroes, another PlayNC game. It’s public domain and can’t be copy written. I’m waiting for the 72 hour ban and name change because they don’t understand the laws governing copy writes. Things like Tinkerbell.. Most people think Disney. Disney doesn’t own Tinkerbell… just the tiny blond hair, green dressed version you see today, but NOT the name.
I appreciate the feedback from the forum moderator, even though the moderators aren’t part of arena net and have no feedback in developing or resolving the issues we are having. I’m sure most of you agree that the 72 hour ban is overly excessive for a first time offense and that perma banning someone wrongly is egregious. I’ve been wanting to finish my legendary today, but am scared to move gold from the guild bank or my storage toon in fear of getting banned. I’m pretty sure we didn’t buy the game to live in this sort of shadow of impending doom 24/7.
pre grats on your legendary , also i’d be fine if i got a 3 day “chat” ban for swearing… but an actual game ban seems like a little much

I’ve never ever understood why have a chat filter then punish people for swearing. I’d understand if we were avoiding the filter by saying things like H 3 1 1, but if someone purposely disables their filter, they shouldn’t be allowed to carebear and tell on you. Then the 72 hour ban. OVERLY excessive.
TY Uber. Looks like it wont be anytime soon since I won’t risk getting banned for moving my gold around. Unless I get it from the gem store, which is probably what all of this is about anyway, another way to push us to spend real money on their products.

CoverGirl is an American cosmetics brand founded in 1960 in Maryland, by the Noxzema Chemical Company (later called Noxell) and acquired by Procter & Gamble in 1989. The Noxell Company advertised this cosmetics line by allowing “cover girls”, fashion models who appear on the front cover of women’s magazines, to wear its products. CoverGirl makes up for lack of direct individual customer service by providing a wide variety of cosmetics available at reasonable prices.
Basically that’s why your name was in violation of the Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy.
actaully i would like to file a report… the person who got me banned voilated a rule also, they where named after a “•Reference religious or historical figures.” which is why i said what i did
Most games don’t care about copyright or trademark nicknames, cause nobody is going to sue for a nickname in a mmo, fps, rpg, rts, whatever it is. They are only going to care when that person starts wanting to make money with that nickname. That ain’t going to happen in Guild Wars 2.
Probably, might need to take it higher up. It won’t be constructive to rant here.

Its just a causality of war that Anet is declaring on gold sellers I think they are doing a good job in trying to weed them out. Its hard to have such a war without having some colateral damage done and I m sure it will work itself out, but Kudos to Anet for taking the time to try to combat gold sellers.

The chat filter is not there to give players a free license to swear. A player may disable the filter because they are chatting privetly with friends or guild mates who swear at each other in fun (example, what a farking idiot that guy was, etc.). If you want to swear, you can swear all you want in private chat. If you swear in the main or map channel, your fair game to any other player who has to listen to it. They do not take action for language unless it is reported, so rule of thumb, don’t use the language where others have to hear it. It’s like real life, would you stand in the middle of the street spouting off obceneties and tell others if they don’t like it don’t listen? I have stood in Lions Arch and heard some of the worst, most foul language you can imagine from players who in real life would get a punch in the mouth but because they are hidden by the internet think they can say anything thay want. There has to be some kind of controls, or it would get out of hand so fast it would make your head spin.
Bottom line, it’s Anets game. They set the rules. You can ask/suggest they change the rules but if they don’t want to change them, you have only 2 chioces.
1. Play the game and abide by the rules.
2. Leave the game and go play something else.

No, it’s not acceptable especially those wrongfully suspended or accused are not compensated. There is a reason why people speaks up for such situation (to let Anet know something is definitely wrong with their system) and the typical pathetic response most players like you give ‘oh it’s too bad but its for the greater good’.
Some people also disable the filter due to false positives.
Note the ToS says simply no foul language.
being from a game company in the past, system will flag out potential high risk botters etc, and a GM will go over the list and decide whether to ban.
It feels like anet does the opposite. System will auto flag out and ban.. before GM does check and unban..
some of the stories I’ve read are incredibly… stupid. sry i couldnt find a better word.
if it’s not possible to do perform banning manually, perhaps you should relook at the logic used.
Hello everybody,
I’m posting here because my guild leader just got banned for fairly the same motive and I’ve read in this thread that guild members can make a petition to unbanned him, how did you do that?
@maverick: Have your guild leader go to https://en.support.guildwars2.com/ and click on the Ask A Question link. It will let them open a ticket with Customer Support.
There’s really nothing for the guild members to do.

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately, we can’t check this kind of things via the forums. The best way to resolve this issue is to send a ticket to our customer support as Jinx stated.
