Guild Wars 2 Simply Won't install on 8
Compatibility mode? Not sure.
There shouldn’t be any problems at all.
Intel 520 120GB + 240GB / 2 x WD Caviar Black 1TB (RAID 0) / Corsair AX1200 / ASUS VG278H
Windows 8.1 Pro x64 / ASUS Xonar Essence STX / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech Z-5500
Copy the game folder over from the one that works to the Win 8 machine.
It works perfectly fine on my Windows 8 machine so that’s not the problem.
A possible solution is to install in C:\Guild Wars 2\ because program files has been protected against frequent writes (which GW2 does). Furthermore, make a shortcut to the GW2.exe and start it with right click > run as administrator. Double check whether you’re actually logged on as administrator.
Furthermore “won’t install” isn’t a good error description. If possible make a screenshot and/or type over the very exact error message.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
YES! I have this exact same problem on the exact same laptop which I bought because I was told would easily be able to play GW2. So far I have never got an error message at all, the installer “just quits” after you click the yes icon for “Do you want this program to make changes to your computer” and nothing else pops up after that. So far I have tried
- Renaming installer to Gw2.exe
- Deleing the Dat files
- Running as administrator
- Turning off windows firewall and anti virus
- Moving installer to a different directory
Basically any answer that I Goggled for I have tried with none having any effect at all!
Please help!

What are the specifications of the computer you are trying to install Guild Wars 2 on?
Chloe (Version 3):
[i7 930 @ 4.1Ghz (1.3875V) w/Cooler Master 120M][Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (stock)]
You may want to be certain that you have all windows updates installed, even the optional ones. Just a thought.

That being said, system specs are usually a good place to start.

Running as admin wobble?
If that doesn’t help, start your own thread with complete details including system specs and if possible, your arenanet.log exported as a .txt (attach files using more posting & formatting options below).

I’m running this game on windows 8 and 8.1 and it runs better compared to win7.
i don’t know what you mean by install? my gw2 client is pretty much just one large file and one exe ??
Same problem appeared when I was trying to install it on my girlfriend’s laptop. After hours of fiddling with it and trying to make it work and messing up her laptop, refreshing (reinstalling) her Windows 8 system ended up making the install work properly.
