I have recently acquired a 40GB Kingston SSD.

I am looking at trying to reduce my load times in game.

My plan is to install the SSD into my tower and just install Guild Wars 2 only to the SSD.

Anyone have experience with running the game only from the SSD or would any issues possibly arise due to this?

Well im using my SSD as my OS and game drive I haven’t come across a problem that’s related to game being on it… Just make sure your SSD has the latest firmware installed on it (you can find it on manufacturer’s website) your SATA cables are not damaged and you are using the Sata 6Gbps slots on your mobo (supposedly you have at least one and drive is capable of running 6gbps)

Cables are good, just bought some new data cables and my motherboard is SATA 6Gbps capable.

Thanks for the heads up about the firmware. Not sure if this is running the latest or not.

If your motherboard supports it I would suggest using AHCI mode for your drive rather than SATA.

there is no mode such as SATA there is raid / Ahci and IDE so yeah Ahci mode is the one you should use unless your windows is installed in any other mode you might have bootu kitten ues if so…

ya IDE my brain still isnt working…
AHCI can be enabled after windows is installed via a registry tweak.

Ok, ya’ll lost me with AHCI. How and where would I find out if my computer is capable of this?

well don’t worry about it if you aren’t familiar with bios/uefi it’s a storage mode kinda thing which has 3 types(ahci/ide/raid) you can google it for more detailed information. if you are familiar with your bios you can check it under storage settings/integrated peripherals in your bios but I’d suggest not to mess with it if you are clueless you might end up in pile of kitten ^^

I’m sure I can figure it out. I am familiar to some extent with the BIOS and system settings, etc. AHCI settings are just something I am not familiar with.

Does it provide any performance boost or benefit? Or should I just install the SSD and just transfer the game?

IDE mode is as far as i know limits the speed of SSD but if your windows was installed with the IDE mode enabled you will need to change some things in registery or that kind of settings to make it boot when you changed AHCI mode or you will have to install windows with AHCI mode enabled. if you cant change it to work as ahc? you can always go back in bios to change it back to IDE
