Any reason for this? Just seems silly that it just places it in “My Documents” or “Documents” (depending on version of windows of course) when the My Games folder is there for this very reason.
Petty thing i know, but hey, figured it’s worth mentioning, nice releif from the usual game bugs :P

I was able to assign a directory to place the GW2 game. The Documents folder is for playlists and screenshots so I’m not really sure if you are referring to the actual game or just the documents for/from the game.
At any rate, this can be handled locally by machine. It’s not a game bug.

Im referring to the settings folder (Local.dat and custom music) not the actual game, i realise you can move the game folder anywhere you like, but the other folder cannot be moved, it will just be remade in the same place.

This is by far not the first game to do this. It’s helpful if the computer has multiple users and each wants to save or keep private screenshots, music or whatever. Being the only user it doesn’t make sense, but it does have its purpose, and like i said, far from the first game to do this.

Indeed, im not singling out GW2 by all means, its just “cleaner” to have it in there as the documents folder is per user anyway, but i consider it messy to just put it in there when there is a folder microsoft provide for game information called “My Games”.
I guess the better place would be Program Data in newer operating systems and Docs & Settings/All Users/Application Data for Windows XP.

The user data location should ideally be configurable. I use an SSD for OS/games and my user data folders are on a regular HDD. I noticed the Documents GW2 folder too and redirected it with the mklink command as a workaround.
You may as well forget about the “My Games” folder too, that was changed to “Saved Games” for the last few releases of Windows – and most games I’ve played don’t use that folder either.

Hmm okay why did a mod move this to tech support? This is obviously an issue which cannot be solved by the user, it was merely a suggestion for good programming practices (as Microsoft intend programs to lay out their app ddata), hence me posting it in game bugs, much more appoprite than tech support.
