Guild Wars 2 shuts down computer
Hi Tivez – Are you experiencing two different issues here? You are getting the black screen in addition to a PC shutdown? There could be multiple issues here.

My computer shuts down like if you turned it off but it still stays powered on with the fan running etc. It only happens when I’m playing Guild Wars 2 and it happens everytime I go into a Winterdays map.
I’m not sure if it is my pc or the game itself.
Well I’d check your hardware first: make sure nothing is overheating, PSU is still good, etc. If you’ve got any sort of “factory overclocked hardware” like certain CPU’s will have a Turbo Boost feature or Nvidia Ti cards also have this, you may want to try disabling Turbo Boost and even underclocking the graphics card as both of these features have been known to trigger the black screen issue.
There’s a number of different things that you can try to troubleshoot this issue since there’s a number of different resolutions so we’ll start with this.
Also – wouldn’t hurt to try bypassing your router and connecting directly to your modem if you can. Seems certain routers and Guild Wars 2 don’t get along very well.

I really want to get this fixed ASAP since i can not do the Wintersday events. So if none of this works do i just submit a ticket or what should i do?
Also thank you for the help.
Download CPU-Z and GPU-Z and check the temps of everything while running the game. Also DL and install the latest video drivers for your card. Also, please list all hardware, if you don’t know how on the CPU-Z website, they also have PC Wizard which will list all hardware in your system.
While you are at it, download OCCT, it is a all in one that can test CPU and GPU, which will give a good idea if the system is over heating and if you run the PSU test, and it crashes, it will also let us know if the PSU cant keep up.
Check and see if you have any new mini dump files, if you do, upload them and post them here.
In addition to what other people are saying, check to make sure your computer’s power supply has a high enough wattage to handle all of your computer’s components. If you built the computer yourself or if you overclocked your CPU or GPU you could be trying to pull too much power when you run something intensive (like GW2) and overloading your power supply.

I’m just letting you know that I have been playing for multiple months without any problems. I can still play the game with crashes happening rarely but as soon as I join a Winterday map my pc “shuts down”
It sounds like overheating and/or a PSU problem to me. Overheating can be due to buildup of dust/et cetera over time – have you taken a can of compressed air to the inside of the PC recently (unfortunately this problem or “built up gunk” can be even worse on laptops because it’s harder/impossible to clean them) ? Or it could be overheating or overdrawing power as mentioned due to the high activity in the Wintersday events.
