Guild Wars 2

I try and run the game and this is what it says:

“Guild Wars 2 is unable to start because another copy is already running on this computer, or because the application has insufficient rights to successfully detect whether another copy is already running on this computer”

I don’t know if this has something to do with the server outages. Its never happened before and I don’t have another copy of the game running. And I didn’t click on the icon multiple times for it to try and run two games.

Help?

Did the client crash before that happening?
If yes then you have to end the previous client process then start the game.

The client had not crashed before it happened to me, but I had been kicked off of the server several times. Using Task Manager to kill the extra GW2 processes solved the problem.

After the patch, I could log in for a few hours then I get disconnected and when I try to get back on a window appears that says this:

Already Running
Guild Wars 2 is usable to start because another copy is already running on this computer, or insufficient rights to successfully detect whether another copy is already running on this computer.

I am not running Gw2 so I don’t know what is wrong.

I tried rebooting and it worked!

I had the same problem and the answer that worked for me was to restart the computer.

I just experienced this for the first time ever having played since the first special invite Closed Beta. I was kicked from WvW because of a new build so I decided to just exit the game. Upon relaunching the client I now get this error.

I’m seeing this error trying to INSTALL the program:

“Guild Wars 2 is unable to start because another copy is already running on this computer, or because the application has insufficient rights to successfully detect whether another copy is already running on this computer.”

I was running GW2 previously on this laptop on another hard drive. Pulled that, installed a new SSD with a new install of Windows 8 Pro. Can’t install from the discs or downloading the game client. I’ve rebooted the computer and ran the installer with Admin rights. No dice.

Do you have two operating systems installed now?
If so the first operating system would have registry entries still in existence possibly affecting GW

Was the install of windows 8 pro an upgrade or a completely new install using the same hard drive?

Is the operating system and GW install on the same hard drive when it fails?

Anyway, I suspect the registry has records as you state you have full admin rights.

About GW saying it is already running even tho it appears to not be as it crashed or whatever and you cannot see it.

It is extremely common for the Windows processes to hold onto a process longer than what is desirable for many applications so that the same application cannot be re-launched. Windows task manager will fix it in seconds, just control alt delete to get to task manager, go to processes, sort the processes in alphabetical order by clicking the top list and you see the process running. Right click the needed process like guildwars or firefox and force it to stop. Be insanely careful to not click the wrong process as some are vital for running the computer.

I am having the same problem, and I have tried with no success to fix this problem. I have turn off all the securities blah blah blah, and I am all out of ideas. tried a ton of different things. I am going to maybe try and install it using an actual physical disk? maybe that will help? i dont know. Please help! And, why isn’t there a phone number to call?

in future instances of this instead of rebooting the computer you can open up task manager via ctrl+alt+delete and go down to processes and end guild wars 2 client
